"Haha! Take that!" Elicia cheered playing on one of Jonas's ds's. The kids were in the kitchen with Nate and Zari. Breakfasts already eaten.
"Gah! No!" Jonas struggled to block the attack on his own ds and his Mario cart got thrown off the road and exploded. "Nooo!" Jonas hung his head, feet banging against his chair.
Zari snorted, where she sat, eating a bagel at the kitchen counter. "Nice play."
"It's not funny!" Jonas denied.
"Oh, yeah my bad kid." Zari agreed. "You're totally right." Zari winked at Elicia and gave her a discreet thumbs up. The little girl beamed. "Not funny at all."
"Zari, be nice." Nate lowered his voice from where he poured his morning coffee. "He's on a serious losing streak."
Jonas glared and used his powers on Nate's coffee. His mug completely empty once more as it all reappeared in the pot- the boy having turned back time.
"It's so good to see you in better spirits, Clarity." Amaya smiled at her friend as she and Clarity walked into the kitchen together.
"Yeah, well, guess seeing how horrible my dopple had it gave me perspective." Clarity nodded, the lights brightening as she entered the room. "And with Crash taking Eobard out the old fashioned way..." her eyes settled on Elicia. "I've got a new reason to smile."
"Mom! Mom!" Elicia hopped to her feet. "I won again!" The little girl gushed, racing over to Clarity grabbing her hands.
"Only because you changed reality!" Jonas accused pointing with his finger.
"Did not!" Elicia whirled around, glaring at the boy. "That's cheating!"
"Okay you two- maybe that's enough Mario kart for today." Nate switched off the tv. "How about you two do a board game. Like checkers or chess?"
Clarity tensed at the mention of chess. Her grip on Elicia's shoulders tightened. Her nails digging into the child's shirt as Eobard flashed in her mind. Lightning crackled across Clarity's skin.
Chess was his game.
"Clarity?" Amaya leaned towards her in concern, noting the haunted look in an instant.
"Huh?" She looked back at Amaya, barely blinking out of her daze.
"Are you alright?" Amaya asked, resting a hand on her shoulder, or at least she tried to. Instead it glitched right through her.
"I'm fine." Clarity breathed, letting go of Elicia. She looked down at her and smiled, smoothing out the child's hair. "Just fine...happy...thankful...grateful...all the...all the things."
"Right...and why don't I believe you?" Zari crossed her arms in front of her.
"Because you're from a dystopian future that makes cynics out of people. I mean look at Rip."
"It's true, my dad's got a rubbish personality." Jonas nodded, he grinned at Elicia. "
"Mom! You're giving me the frizzies!" The child stomped her foot.
"Oh. Sorry sweetie." Clarity killed her lightning, smoothing down the child's hair.
"Pardon me for interrupting," Gideon spoke up, "but Ms. Jiwe is wanted in the library."
