Setting Sun

Oh setting sun,
Pray tell me,
What have you glimpsed,
What have you seen?

Have you seen her,
If you had time 'spare,
The joyous little girl
Standing in the square?

And the little blue boy
On an old roof top,
A hand at his hip,
And hat on the top

Have you seen the lady,
One with old batten hands?
She just sits all day,
Or, with a cane, she stands.

Have you been by the house
Where old man lives?
Eyes glued to the door,
Little prayers he gives

Did you have a chance,
To peek at the man,
Behind the old wheel
If his rusty blue van?

Or at the lassie who sits
With a pen, in the cill
Writing to a love,
In the war, who was killed

The lady with the laugh,
Have you seen her eyes?
When she smiles, you see,
It's a mask of lies

Have you passed the boy,
With a tiny little nose,
Standing in the garden,
Plucking a little rose?

His sister, if you've seen,
She waits at the gate,
Holding in fragile hands,
Popped corn in a plate

Oh, setting sun,
Tell me if you've been,
To all these people
No one's really seen
