In the world of Pokémon, there are six known regions- Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova and Kalos. These regions collectively make up the Pokémon world. The first Pokémon Master, known as Lord Death, controls these regions with his Pokémon for the greater good.
To help carry on his legacy, he had a son, Asura. But Asura was not like his father. Lord Death saw Pokémon as helpers that could do good for people; Asura saw Pokémon as slaves that could do one's bidding, good or bad. Asura fashioned a substance made of darkness and hate in people's hearts. These Pokémon that Asura corrupted were labelled Shadow Pokémon, whose hearts were filled with Dark Aura. Their striking differences in point of view led to a fight, between father and son, until Asura eventually lost. In the end, Asura was banished to an abandoned cliff and robbed of his Pokémon.
Years passed, and Lord Death had another son, Death the Kid. Lord Death made it his mission for him not to turn out like Asura. He taught him the proper way to handle his Pokémon and train them. And told him about his brother, but left out the fact they were and was led to believe that he was dead.
Death the Kid knew that there was nothing he could do, for he was not born then. However, he vowed that if he could stop anyone from going on that path, he'd happily help them, no matter what it took. Now, this would be put to the test when it he finds two girls that are in dire need of guidance.
