This is hard

"Why do we need to talk to a doctor?" I asked the receptionist. She didn't exactly ignore my question but didn't answer it.
"Here she is" She pointed behind me and I saw a small women with dark hair smiling at me.
"Hello. How are you?"
"Great" I said sarcastically. I mean I had no reason to be angry with her but I guess i was.
"So Alex has been moved to a different room upstairs"
"Why didn't anyone just tell me that?! Y'all got me all worried that she died or something"
"Oh I apologise we didn't mean to worry you. Alexandra is awake but she is still recovering and is struggling with memory due to her concussion. But she can answer a few simple questions like her name and her age because the damage isn't too extreme. But we're going to need to do some face recognition so if you follow me to her room we're going to see if she can recognise you"
Recognise me? Of course she's going to recognise me. Just not...as her gf and probably not even her best friend.
"ok" I murmured and followed her into the room.
Alex looked up and her eyes widened.
"Hello Alexandra. Thank you for answering our questions. We're going to be doing some recognition tests"
She waved me in and I walked slowly over to her and sat on a small stool near her bed.
"hey Alex...are you okay?"
"Billie eilish?!" She clapped her hand over her mouth in shock.
No no no no no no no! This is exactly what I was afraid of. Well I am billie eilish but I'm not billie eilish to Alex. I'm not supposed to be at least. I felt tears pricking at my eyes and the doctor looked at me with sympathy.
"She knows you're name...and she seems very happy to see you. Alex who is billie eilish to you?
"well..." she said quietly. Please say your girlfriend or your best freind or something please Alex come on.
"I've been obsessed with her for years! What is billie eilish doing here? Billie I love you so much!"
"Alex..." I held her hand and bit my lip to fight back tears.
The doctor took me out of the room to talk to me while Alex had a break from the questions.
"I know it must be hard seeing someone you love struggle to recognise you. But after a couple weeks she will get her memory back. It might take a couple of questions from you and some help from us, but eventually she'll get there"
"okay..."
she'll get there. There'll get there. She will remember you billie. How could she not you have known each other for years come on!
This was my sad attempt at 'pulling myself together'
"So should I come back tomorrow? When can she come home actually by the way" the doctor looked through an A4 booklet for a while until she looked up at me again.
"Most likely next week. I don't think you should come back tomorrow. She's hasn't been conscious for very long so I think you should stay home for a couple of days"
"But I-"
"Don't stress too much please. Everything is going to be okay" She said softly and tapped me on the shoulder before she left.
I stared at the door number for a while with tears in my eyes again before I also left.
This is really hard.
