(CHARA POV)

. . .
I opened my eyes. I was in an endless white void, just... standing... I took a deep breath. Golden flowers. On the ground was a trail of golden flowers leading into the distance. I followed. It seemed like no time at all, but I had already arrived at the end of the trail. A picnic table. And my brother, Asriel, was sitting at it. I sat down, I put my head down on the table, he did the same. We just kinda, stared at each other. He still had the scar across the left side of his face from when we were kids.

"Howdy."
"Hey." We stared at each other for what felt like hours, but was probably only a few seconds. He looked much older than I remember, about my age. Still wore the same sweater though. "I made you wait, huh?"
"I wasn't waiting too long."
"..."
"..."
"I missed you."
"I missed you too."
"..."
"I was wondering when you would come see me."
"... I made you suffer, huh? Back then."
"Chara..."
"I'm so sorry." I felt tears well up in my eyes.
"Hey." I put my hand on his face.
"I hated humanity... But I loved you... and mom... and dad..." His yellow eyes sparkled in the soft glow of the world. "Can you forgive, this demon child?"
"*Sigh* You idiot." I sat up. "I was never mad at you." He pulled me into a tight hug. I tried to hold it back, but I started crying.
"Why not? I killed myself, then I used your body to enact my plan. You died because of me. In Mom's arms." He hugged me tighter.
"You really don't understand, do you?"
"I don't really understand anything anymore, Az..." the tears wouldn't stop.
"I'm not mad, because you did the right thing. You are stronger than you'll ever know."
"How do you know?" He chuckled slightly.
"I've been... keeping an eye on you, let's say." We pulled away from each other.
"It's so hard living with myself. All the pain I've caused others, knowing that I'll never get the chance to make up for it..." Asriel laughed and smiled.
"Idiot."
"W-What do you mean?"
"Do you remember, when we were kids? We would go to the Ruins, to the place where the sunlight hit the buttercup patch?"
"Y-yeah..."
"We would play with mom's camera and get into all sorts of mischief... Like that time where I actually got you to do your creepy face."
"Oh yeah... that."
"I wonder if your new body can do that, too."
"I-I dunno. I don't really like doing it. Especially now that I know it was embracing my... anger issues."
"It'd be funny if it could, you could prank Frisk with it."
"Why would in the world would I want to do that?" ...Something isn't right. Alphys said that I could see all sorts of things while I was put under. This isn't real. "You're not real, are you? I'm talking to myself. I'm talking to what I want you to be. Asriel is dead." He sighed and stood up.
"Do you remember back when we were kids?"
"Az..."
"I had found out you cutting yourself, and I spent all of my allowance on buying you chocolate every time you would do it."
"Wait, I thought it's just because you were feeling generous?"
"That is what I told you, yes." Wait, I'm falling into the illusion again.
"Azzy."
"I felt so bad that you did that, that I would sit in our room and cry because I thought it was my fault."
"Asriel."
"Then you would call me a crybaby. I got so mad when you said that, but looking back on it now, I kinda was a crybaby, heh—"
"Asriel, stop." He stopped talking. "You're not real. Please stop." I stood up. My fists were clenched. Asriel was as calm as ever. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
"When we had just turned 4, mom had made us each some mini snail pies. I ate all of them and blamed it on you." No way. I thought she only made tarts for him. "You got so mad, you thought I was getting special treatment." He kept going on, telling obscure stories from our childhood from his perspective. Stuff I wouldn't have even known about. He stopped halfway through one.
"Az— OOF" He punched me as hard as he could in the face.
"Did that feel real? I came all the way out here to see you."
"A-Asriel.." He smiled softly.

"You really are an idiot."
