C H A P T E R 10

   "After the test, no one leaves the room. Especially you, professor."

   Akala ko, ako yung batas dito.

   Akala ko ako yung masusunod.

   Well, akala ko lang yun. In the faces of my students, sila pala ang propesor. Ena.

   I don't know why I am being clouded by thoughts of running away from this room at the moment before they all get back here in 20 minutes. With sweats evidently forming on my forehead, I eyed the large clock hanged upon the wall at the end of the room as I hear my heart pounding that corresponds to the sound of our clock ticking. The rhythm they create was enough to spark fire on our cold-blooded room. It's like I can't hear anything but that.

   I feel hassled. W-what should I do?

   I sighed hopelessly. They will get back here in less than 20 minutes now.

   I clenched my jaw and gritted my teeth. S-shit. I feel like I'm about to throw up what I ate this morning. Alam kong wala pang masyadong nangyayari at nagkaroon lang ng mainitan na bangayan sa amin kanina subalit hindi ako mapakali. Hinding-hindi ako mapapakali, at mas lalong hindi ako mapapanatag. I don't have to lie to myself any further. I am well aware what might happen later. I don't know how to exactly pin point it in detail, but it's the thought that keeps me spooked.

   Hindi ako handa mamaya. Hindi ko alam. Balisa ako. Bakit ganito? They are all hiding something from me, and so what if they are? Is it enough for me to cower in fear? Because for sure, that is how I feel.

   Ilang beses akong napalunok nang malalim at dahan-dahan tumayo sa aking upuan.

   In a few seconds, I saw myself grabbing my phone as I walk towards the door. Parang ilang segundo lang ang lumipas at nakita ko nalang ang sarili kong nakalabas na sa kinabibilangan naming department at naglalakad ngayon patungo kung saan lupalop man ako dalhin ng aking mga paa. Napangiwi ako. For a moment, I couldn't believe what I just did.

   Eeeek. Umalis ako? Ako?!

   Tinignan ko ang aking relo at kitang sampung minuto nalang ang natitira at babalik na ang mga estudyante ko sa aming silid-aralan. I don't even remember how I managed to get off the elevator from our building earlier considering that I'm in complete daze the moment I powered up my feet to abandon our homeroom.
