Chapter 10

We pulled up to the house,
Randall said" Why didn't he just kill us?"
Hamish said" He's saving us for target practice."
" We should probably-"
" Give him some space. Great idea."
" I was thinking more like a group hug."
" Nope." We jumped out of the trunk and walked inside.

Alyssa and Jack walked in,
Randall said" Jack. I'm so sorry about your grandfather."
Jack said" Let's just... not talk about it."
Hamish said" Okay. Let's talk about Lilith. Where is she?"
Alyssa said" She wolfed out and distracted Edward, bought me time to escape."
Randall said" And then?"
" I don't know."
" I'll check her hide locker." Randall and I ran downstairs, and to the lockers. I grabbed a candle as he opened it, I put the candle lower and the hide wasn't there. We looked at each other then I put down the candle and we went back upstairs.
I said" Lilith's hide isn't there."
Hamish said" Or missing, just as bad. The point is, how many more people need to die because of you?"
Jack said" Only one more." Jack walked away, we followed him,
" Look, Jack-"
" I know we have to focus on killing Coventry."
Randall said" We have to rescue Lilith."
Alyssa said" What we have to do is get that book away from Edward."
Hamish said" I don't recall our last Marvel team-up working out so well."
" The book is the key to everything. And right now, Edward is at his most vulnerable."
Randall said" You sure about that?"
" He needs to complete the final sacrifice before the Vade Maecum will bond with him."
Hamish said" What's the final sacrifice?"
" His son."
Jack said" His firstborn son. You know what we need to do to beat Coventry? Absolutely nothing."
We all said" What the fuck?"

Jack left, we kinda came up with our own idea,
Alyssa said" This is as bad as Jack's idea."
Randall said" I think it's great."
Hamish said" That's because you suggested it."
" You love it."
" I said it has potential."
Alyssa said" Abduct Maddox and trade him for Lilith?"
I said" We get Lilith out of the Order's clutches. Edward sacrifices the wrong son, the Vade Maecum fails. It's perfect."
" It's murder."
Hamish said" At best, it's depraved indifference to human life."
Randall said" I always forget you were pre-law."
" My father doesn't."
Alyssa said" I can't be a part of this."
Randall said" You don't have to do anything."
Hamish said" Just tell us where Edward lives."
Alyssa said" And how do I know you won't kill anyone else?" Hamish, Randall and I looked at each other.
Randall and I said" We promise."
Hamish said" We promise not to kill anyone else." Randall and I nodded our heads,
Alyssa said" I don't believe you."
" That's probably for the best."
Randall and I said" Yeah. We were lying."
Alyssa said" The Order isn't evil."
Hamish said" We'll have to agree to disagree."
" I guess I should leave, then."
" You probably should." She walked out, I looked at them.

Well... we abducted Coventry's second son, and killed a good amount of people while doing so.
We were back at the den, we put Maddox in a chair and a comic book for entertainment.
Randall said" Turn the page."
Maddox said" I'm not done yet."
" Hurry up."
" I can read at my own pace."
Lilith said" A little help!"
Randall said" Lilith!" He ran to her,
" Thanks for the rescue op. I really appreciate your concern."
" We've been working on a plan. Hamish!"
Maddox said" Who's she? Is she gonna die?"
" No, she's not going to die. Keep reading your comic book... at your own pace. It's Edward's kid."
Lilith said" You abducted his kid?"
" As a bargaining chip."
Maddox said" I'm a bargaining chip?" Vera came in,
She said" For god sakes. Dormitum dimittatur." Maddox passed out, I looked at Randall," Never tell a hostage they're a hostage."
Lilith said" Magus, wipe anyone else's memories lately?"
" Several. Beats killing them."
" Why is she here, anyway?"
Hamish said" Helping us fight Coventry. I'm putting him in your room."
" In exchange for what?"
Vera said" Just a little blood, not that it seems like you have much left."
Randall said" Look. She's hurt, and it's not healing."
Lilith said" I think it's the same knife they used on Hamish."
Vera said" That's an enchanted blade. Any cut will be fatal."
Randall said" You can fix it though, right?"
" Of course I can."
Lilith said" We can't trust her."
" You really don't have much choice, Ms. Bathory."
" I always hated you."
" I don't recall caring. Do you want me to save your life or not? Restittuatur. You're welcome."
" Not bad." Hamish came back down and looked out the window,
He said" We have company." Jack texted Randall, Randall started texting him.
" What'd he say?"
Randall said" He wants us to protect Maddox."
Hamish said" They're circling the house. What are they up to?"
Vera said" Knowing Kepler, something unoriginal. Like that? Protegatur locus hic."
" How long is that gonna protect us?"
" Long enough for us to deal with them. You're not ready."
Lilith said" And you're in no position to tell me what to do." Lilith nearly fell," But I'm choosing to take a second to recover."
Hamish said" Keep an eye on her."
Randall said" Two minutes, then I'm
Tagging in." I pulled off my shirt,
Vera said" We won't need two minutes. No killing."
Hamish and I said" No promises."
We walked outside, I shifted into Moonlight. We started fighting the order, I bit into one of them, I think Hamish did too.
Vera yelled" I said no killing!" I threw one to the ground instead of biting again.
We walked back inside, I pulled on my robe,
Randall said" So, did we... did we miss the fighting?"
Hamish and I said" Just a little."
Vera said" And I have a potion to finish."
Lilith said" Congratulations. I need werewolf blood." I raised my hand immediately, as did Hamish and Lilith.
We said" Not it."
Randall said" Not it. Shit."
Vera said" Would you be so kind."
" Yeah." I saw Lilith smiling as Randall walked downstairs, my mouth gaped.
Hamish said" Are you... smiling?"
Lilith said" No. Fuck you." Hamish closed my mouth,
I mumbled" No... ew, gross."

We walked into the temple, Vera went in first, then when no one listened to her. We came around the corner, wolf'd out.
Vera said" Edward's sealed them from the inside!" We started hitting the door as hard as we could.
We got in,
Hamish said" Jack, glad to see you're not dead." We saw Coventry being sucked into the book,
Jack said" You have the potion?" Hamish tossed it to Jack,
Vera said" That's highly volatile." Jack poured the potion onto the book and it burst into flames.

Hamish said" Easy on the bitters. We're not farmers." Randall and Lilith brought in the locker,
Jack said" Whoa! You're not getting rid of that, are you?"
Randall said" Take a look." It started rattling as Jack got closer,
" Silverback? But I thought the Nephilim's tears destroyed him."
Lilith said" When the potion destroyed the book, it freed Silverback from his bond with the Vade Maecum."
Randall said" He's good as new. All he needs now... is a champion."
Jack said" If anything, I think he needs some rest."
" But Midnight-"
" Is starting to grow on me. Besides, I've died enough this week."
" So! What should we drink to?"
Hamish said" Victory."
Lilith said" Survival."
Jack said" How about to family?"
Hamish said" Lame."
Lilith said" I don't know you."
Randall and I said" To family? When did we turn into an episode of This is Us?"
Jack said" Okay, someone pick something else then. Hamish?"
Hamish said" Fuck it. Let's just drink." We clinked glasses,
" Hey, I heard you guys kissed."
Lilith said" Really, Rachel?"
I said" Hey, I didn't... okay, I did, but he asked!" I pointed to Jack, then downed the drink, smiling widely at Lilith.

Someone knocked on my door, I got up and walked to my door, opening it. Then something was blown into my face, I blacked out.
