Emily groaned, rolling her eyes and dropping her head back, "It is just my luck that I somehow wind up in the same class as him."
Her best friend rose an eyebrow as she glanced toward Emily's ex-boyfriend, "Brandon? Really?"
Emily sighed, glancing back at him. Brandon seemed to be busy talking to one of his friends.
When he initiated eye contact, a weird familiar feeling of butterflies returned, causing heat to rush back to her face.
No, no. It was just embarrassment he caught her eye contact, she told herself sternly.
It appeared though that Quinn caught her odd expression.
"Emily! I know that look!!" Quinn scolded as she reminded her, "You have a boyfriend. Do you really want to do to Calvin what Brandon did to you?"
Her sweet boyfriend, Calvin.
Oh, how she loved his unconditional kindness and love. She could never even imagine hurting him like that.
"I-I don't know what you're talking about!! I was NOT-" Emily scoffed, coughing a bit as she struggled to piece together a coherent sentence, "-there is no look!"
"Sure, Em."
"Look," Quinn sighed, pleading to her best friend, "I've known you for years, and I saw how much heartbreak he cause you. Please, be careful here."
Before Emily had a chance to respond, the professor started her announcement.
"Okay, class! Your next project will be done with partners, randomly assigned by my computer. Check the listing by the door after class, and get in touch with your partners as soon as possible."
Once class was over, all the students ushered to the back of the room, cell phones in hand to take photos of their assigned partners' names.
When Emily took a photo of the entire page, she scrolled in, checking to see who her partner was.
With her lovely luck, she was partnered with her manipulative ex-boyfriend and now dorm neighbor, Brandon Gardner.
