Before:

It was time to face the truth.

It was afternoon by now. She had to be up. And if she was with Fitz... oh well. He could do anything he wanted, but he wouldn't stop this.

It was time to face the truth.

Keefe pulled out his imparter. Said her name.

She answered.

"Sophie? We need to talk."

It was time to face the truth.

She didn't even know what had happened.

Were they broken up again?

Again?

She sighed.

This... didn't feel right.

Relationships were supposed to feel... natural.

It had been her fault, this time. Fitz was pushing, yes. But her response was to run. Leave things unsaid, refuse to face herself, her feelings.

Again.

Maybe it was better this way.

Maybe she did like both of them. But maybe she was only meant to be with one of them.

The only person who could always cheer her up.

The only person she could be herself around. She could be real around.

They'd picked each other up off the ground, pieced each other back together.

Sophie wiped her tears off her face.

There was no use in crying.

That didn't fix a thing.

She picked up her imparter to hail the only person who'd ever seen past her mask.

But apparently, he'd had the same idea.

Keefe's face filled her screen before she could say his name.

"Sophie? We need to talk." His face was determined.

"Keefe? I was just about to hail you," Sophie said softly.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

Sophie blushed slightly. "Why?" There was no way he could know about the breakup already-

"Your eyes are red," he told her.

Sophie bit her lip. "Are they?"

"Yes. Did something happen?"

"I... yes." Sophie avoided his eyes. This was what she'd wanted to hail him about but she couldn't speak-

"What?" he pressed.

"I- It... Fitz-"

Keefe sucked in a breath, as though that was all she'd needed to say. "What did he say?" Maybe he noticed the look on her face or something else, because he added, "Only if you want to, I know it must be... uncomfortable."

"Okay. I can... share the memory, I guess." Sophie held her breath. She could just tell him. But part of her needed to talk to him in person, be near him, feel his heat warming her-

Crap.

"We have to be near for that, right?" Keefe knew the answer already, it seemed, and when Sophie nodded- a quick jerk of her head- he nodded too, telling her to come to the meadow. It was only then that she realized he wasn't in the meadow. The light beaming behind him wasn't the sun, it was the lights that he kept scattered around his room. He was sitting on his chair, not the grassy ground.
