Royally Interested

Chapter 3

"Just hold still ," the physician instructed as I pinched my eyes shut feeling the needle pierce my soft , porcelain skin.

I've been up since 5 this morning. Enduring all sorts of tests and exercises that ultimately led up to this moment ; me being inseminated.

"All done ," he said making me open my eyes while I watched the king extend his hand towards me , helping me up.

"What happens now ?" I asked putting my jacket back on.

"Check back with me within a few days or so." The doctor answered as I nod before following behind king Rysand.

"You did very good Avalon. You're  very brave." He said making me crack a smile.

"Thank you , I try to be. "

"You must be hungry? Would you want to have lunch with me ?" He asked politely while I wasn't sure whether or not I should accept his invitation or not. My sole purpose for being here was to provide him with an heir , not create any type of human relations with him. He was my superior and in a way... I was working for him.

"It's just lunch Avalon, I'm not going to get down on one knee." He said giving a hearty laugh while gave a small smile before taking a seat at the table.

"May I ask you something ?"

"Of course , go ahead." He answered , sitting back in his chair with his hands folded.

"Why are you being so nice to me ? I'm just here to provide you with an heir. I'm technically working for you ." I asked feeling a bit ashamed for doing so. I watched as he thought for a second, staying quiet while he observed my nervous demeanor.

"Well to be frank with you ; despite of what everyone believes , I'm actually a very caring and understanding king. I don't like to view people as my 'servants' or my inferiors , but a part of what shapes the world. Everyone contributes to the world we live in each in their own way. Some have a bigger part - like me - and others have much more  smaller roles , but that doesn't change the fact that we're all equally important in the role we play in life. " he answered as if he had rehearsed it before , while I watched him for sincerity.

"That's... a really beautiful sentiment your highness." I said while he displayed a humble smile taking a croissant from the center of the table.

"I don't have many rules around here regarding your stay. You are welcome to eat whatever and whenever you like , the garden is open for you and of course if you ever need anything , so is my door. Of course my room is restricted - but that was a given - and whenever you have an appointment or any questions, let me know. I'm here to make this process as easy and comfortable for you as I can." He said with a smile while showing me around the palace.

"Thank you , I really appreciate all you're doing for me." I said looking back at the library we passed .

"The pleasure is all mine . I mean after all , you're the one giving me the greatest gift of them all. " he replied with a smile while I kept my gaze on all the beautiful rooms we passed.

After that , he excused himself to get back to work while I aimlessly wandered around the palace. I could see myself getting easily lost in here , but tried to remember the most important route ; which way's down. My first official day in the palace was very fast paced and a little stressful on my behalf, which made my sleep that much more blissful and relaxing. Waking up in that plush bed , almost made me want to stay there forever yet I knew better not to. I had an important job to fulfill.

"Did you sleep alright?" King Rysand asked politely while I watched the servants carry out breakfast.

"It was very lovely thank you. " I replied with a warm smile as an omelette plate was placed infront of me. I softly thanked the young lady before meeting king Rysand's gaze on mine.

"You have a very kind heart Avalon. "

"Wow , thank you..." I said a little embarrassed, putting a stray hair behind my ear.

"Not to mention you're incredibly humble , down to earth , modest and not to seem forward - or seemingly inappropriate - but beautiful too. You're the perfect person to be carrying my heir. " What he said was meant as a compliment - and to some out of place - but to me , it left speechless. I didn't have a lot of male encounters in my life, I was otherwise busy with keeping my head afloat , to date or even make friends. So the idea that someone would regard me as such was unfathomable , but it was sure nice to hear.

"You're very kind king -"

"Just Rysand please. If we're going to spend the next 9 months in eachoher's company , I'd much rather it be without the formalities. " he said giving a hearty laugh , pouring his coffee.

"As you wish." I replied with a smile , though it was going to be very difficult - and feel strange - to be addressing someone as high up in the chain like him , at such an informal matter . But if that were his wishes , I would do as I were told.

"You don't mind taking the test after breakfast do you ? I mean , not to rush the process I just... get a little impatient with these type of things. Guess that makes it a flaw of mine." He added the last part with an embarrassed smile while I couldn't help but laugh.

"We all have them ,"

"No way , you're too prefect to be anything but." He flattered while I couldn't help but smile.

"Okay ? Well I'm extremely insecure."

"No way ."

"I'm afraid of heights and being in crowded places makes me nervous. I can be ignorant , messy and sometimes even a little timid. We all have things we don't like about ourselves I just... think it keeps us human. " I ended seeing him watch me with what I hope to be awe in his eyes. He seemed impressed by my honesty now that was one of my strengths.

I watched him push his plate to the side , intertwining his fingers as he took a deep breath before meeting my gaze once again. "Well if we're putting everything out into the open , I might as well do the same. " he said with a smile as I dropped my gaze to my plate saying; "you really don't have to , I was just trying to make you feel bet-"

"I want to. " he said reaching his hand out to mine before retracting it equally as fast. "Okay , so I'm... addicted to my work , sometimes prideful and a little prejudice. At times I can be a bit blunt and other times bold . I'm... extremely fanatical not to mention being overambitious . And last - but certainly my biggest flaw of them all - I get extremely jealous over something that is considered mine." He ended with a rather proud smile as I couldn't help but let out a laugh. No one has been this open and honest before , not to mention humoring me in such a way. I felt kind of... remarkable. We might not ever converse with eachother after this , but this was a good feeling for now. The feeling of being wanted and appreciated. Knowing you were being seen and someone cared. It was... nice. I just hope I didn't disappoint his expectations.
