chapter 2: okay like this

Both of them put their phones down while still laughing at that combo with their friends. Their talent was to avoid or change the subject about them. They would love to explain it but... they don't even know. Are they friends? Yes. Do they sleep together? Yes. Are they friends with benefits? No, they are more than that. But are they dating? That's a question they have been trying to respond for the past year. They broke up for two years. Both of them had different relationships, they had girlfriends, boyfriends, hookups but they were still friends with each other. They just didn't talk about their love life, that was the only rule.

"Are they ever going to understand us?" Ricky said, while putting an arm around Nini's waist. They were laying on the couch, with some TV show playing in the background.

"I think it will be hard for them to understand us if we don't even understand us." she said, caressing his cheek.

"We aren't boyfriend and girlfriend, but we don't see other people. We go out on dates and pretty much live together but because we are months apart because of our jobs we just don't make it official. We are casual. We are just- We are us."

"Yeah, we are us. As long as we are okay." Nini said, while putting her head on his chest, falling quickly asleep in his arms. This was normal for them. They knew they weren't dating but it felt like it. They always say that they aren't really to be together, which is true, but they can't be apart. They tried, but they would always go back to each other. Even living under the public eye, they were so good at keeping it a secret. They deleted almost every evidence of their relationship, the fans think they are just friends. Of course, they try not to sit together in a restaurant because they get tempted to kiss the other one and that won't turn out good. They know that. Both of them had a public relationship when they were apart. Nini's lasted 9 months, because the media made up a rumour that she had cheated on him with Red. Her boyfriend didn't believe her. Not even when Red himself told him he was gay. In Ricky's case, he had two girlfriends, paparazzis found out and leaked pictures of them. One of them broke up because she didn't want the attention and the other one liked it too much, he found out she was the one who leaked the pictures. Both of them combined lasted a year. But he would always come back to Nini. That was his problem, no matter what was going on, he would always come back to her. However, every single time they would have to end it. He was always on the run, always with new projects. The longest they spent apart was 5 months, the first 5 months after their break up. Way too many heartbreak songs were written. One of them being voted as the "saddest song of the year': Everyone asked Nini what inspired "Come Back, On Here". She would always answer the some way. It's when you are too in love but distance gets in the middle. That it was about someone she knew she would always love. Ricky still can't hear it without crying. They loved each other too much, but, as the quote says, timing is a bitch. Maybe someday. They both hoped to be someday.
