"When it pulls me under, will you make me stronger?
Will you be my breath through the deep, deep water?"deep water by the american authors
After a few hours of the virus beginning its course around the camp, Avery, Bellamy, and Miller found themselves ordering delinquents around. Avery ran her hands through her hair again as another teenage body was brought out of the dropship. A small crowd formed around the dropship, people paying their respects and beginning to fear for their lives. Despite the amount of unrest around the camp, Avery was thankful that Monty, Jasper, Bellamy, Miller, and Octavia were all seemingly alright.
When the body of the dead teenager was finally set on the ground and the group had a silent moment of mourning, Bellamy and Avery made eye contact. They both held feelings of helplessness in their eyes. Despite all the time they spent keeping the delinquents alive, they couldn't do anything to help with this. Bellamy's gaze shifted back to the crowd around the dropship.
"Alright!" He yelled. "Show's over, get back to your posts."
Bellamy and Avery made their way forward towards Clarke, who was exiting the dropship slowly. The blood on her already-tired looking face made it look even more sunken-in. It made Avery even more concerned for everyone suffering from the sickness.
"Hey Clarke." She greeted, sending the blonde a sympathetic smile. Bellamy stepped up next to Avery, also sending Clarke a small smile, which she tried, and failed, to return.
"You got enough food and water in there?" Bellamy asked, tilting his head slightly to look into the small opening to the dropship. Clarke nodded softly.
"Yeah." She said, her voice coming out especially hoarse. "Some medicine might be nice." She sent a small look to Avery. The King sent her a small nod back.
"I'll see what I can do." Avery replied. She'd already given all of what she made in the first few weeks to the delinquents. But she could only dream of having actual medicine that would help with the sickness and not just various salves forged from plants scattered around the forest. They didn't even know what the sickness was, so the chances of her doing anything else were slim to none.
Bellamy squinted his eyes curiously at the interaction, but his face hardened again when he remembered that Octavia was still supposed to be in the dropship. Images of Octavia's pale skin and cold, lifeless eyes flickered in his vision.
"Octavia, you alright in there?" He yelled, subconsciously leaning his ear further towards the dropship to hear her call back. But there was no reply.
Fearing the worst, Bellamy started to make his way up the dropship ramp before Avery quickly pulled him back. Avery gave Bellamy a hard look that said "stay put," before turning to Clarke. She gave the blonde a quizzical look.
Even though she still looked sick, Avery could see another emotion on her face. Guilt. Avery's eyes widened before her expression turned into a glare.
"She's not in there." Avery wasn't asking, and Clarke almost recoiled at the look in her eyes. "Is she?"
With no response from Clarke, the pair got their answer.
"What the hell, Clarke?" Avery asked, before Clarke cut her off.
"I sent her to see Lincoln." She said, looking incredibly guilty. Avery's gaze softened a bit, but Bellamy's did not. "Look," She argued directly to Bellamy. Her breath was getting heavier and heavier as she struggled to speak. "If there's a cure, he has it. I didn't tell you because I knew you wouldn't let her go."
