Possessing crystalline eyes in Obelia means that the person is a member of the royal family. This is the reason why Ijekiel's father and everyone around her were fooled into thinking that Jennette is Claude's daughter. He's horrified when he learns that Jennette is actually conceived by Anastacius, not Claude, late in the novel. Additionally, her crystals eyes are actually residual magic leftover from her creation as a "Chimera" and when the residual magic is all taken away, her eyes are actually green instead of blue.
