Five's P.O.V

My brothers and I had begun to worry. Fern had spent the previous night packing a bag with supplies and food like she was preparing to leave. She also seemed worried, like something bad was about to happen. This morning we found her quickly eating breakfast before dashing to get her shoes on. Fern also was wearing something completely different from her normal green clothes, they were replaced with an all-black outfit. Fern grabbed her bag and was just about to leave the house when Echo stopped her, "Wait, Fern. Where are you going?"

Fern stopped and tilted her head, looking confused, "What do you mean?" Kix stepped in, "What he means is that you haven't left the house since we got here. That and you appear to be preparing for something." A look of realization crossed her face. Fern turns to face us, "Sorry, I probably should have said, um, you appeared on Friday, I spent Saturday feeling sick and you spent Sunday asking questions until I had to pack." She explains as we remember yesterday and the odd conversation we had with the Kid.

Fern walked downstairs, looking a lot better than she did the day before. Waxer had told us what was up with the kid last solar rotation, making Kix want to go full-on parental mode with her. He did however hold himself back and allowed some questions to be passed around. When Echo asked where the nearest Star-Port was she simply tilted her head in confusion. After a quick explanation, she looks nervously at her feet. Fern cautiously explained that there are no Star-Ports on this planet, named Earth and that the farthest the people of this planet have gone into space was their own moon.

Fern snaps me out of her daze when she finally answered Echo's question, "And I'm just going to School." Oh, she's just going to lessons. Well, that explains a lot.

Before any of us could continue further, Fern slipped out the door.

Fern's P.O.V

I walk down the pebbly hill that my home rests on. Making it to the bottom I hide in the bushes and check to make sure none of them are near. After seeing the coast is clear, I dash to the other side of the road.

I walk for a few minutes before stopping at the store to pick up some chicken scraps from the owner, he gives me them for free after I stopped his trash raiding Raccoon problem. I continue until I stop at a familiar alley. "Hello, Nocturna. How are you today?"

I approach the heavily pregnant she-cat. She was laying on her side when I called and lazily lifted her head as I entered the alleyway. I carefully approach with an outstretched hand, not wanting a scratch from a feral cat. She sniffed my hand and began to eat the chicken scraps I offered while purring. I leave the rest of the scraps by her side and continue onward to school.

"Hey, freak!" I freeze as I hear a very familiar voice. Not giving them a second to get any closer, I bolt in the opposite direction.

Ok, Fern, you got this. With my current position and speed, I should be approaching ... Escape Route 12!

I make a harsh turn left and enter an alley with a large concrete wall blocking the exit. Hearing the echoing footfalls of the predators behind me I waste no time scaling the wall and leaving them behind.

I dash into school and settle down in my seat as my Biology teacher walks in and takes out the register. I internally smirk as they are late and my plan to make-them-late-while-also-getting-me-out-of-that-situation was successful. My pursuers enter the class a few minutes later and get scolded by the teacher.

TIME SKIP

I slip out of Math undetected at the end of the day. Making my way through town I chose a different route from this morning and make it halfway home before they find me.

"Hey! You won't get far!" They call as I run trying to avoid them. Suddenly I'm tackled to the pavement. He smirks and pins me down, "No running this time." He grabs an empty beer bottle from the ground and raises it above his head.

Kix's P.O.V

We were all waiting for Fern to return, most of us with questions. Myself included, I wanted to ask if Fern's condition from two solar rotations ago was a species trait or a medical condition. Just then, Fern slowly pushed open the door and ... limped in.

The Commander noticed it too and we both shared a nod of understanding. Fern brushes past the rest of us and heads straight for the stairs.

After a moment I follow her up to what I assume are her quarters. The area in question was above the second level of the structure and only accessible by a ladder that drops down. I knock on Fern's door and after a moment of silence, she answered. "Who is it?"

"It's me, Kix," I reply "May I come in?" The sound of shuffling is heard before Fern lifts the door. I can tell immediately from her posture that she's in pain. Before she can say anything else, I guide her to the bed and set her down. She seems to realize that resisting me is futile and just lets me do my work.

NO ONE'S P.O.V

He hesitates to lift her jumper, silently asking permission by looking at her. She nods slightly letting him continue. Kix lifts the slightly damp fabric and a serious expression crosses his face. Several glass shards can be seen lodged into her side. The size ranges from piece to piece but all are stuck deep in her skin. Kix notices Fern move, she reviled a small first aid kit hidden under her duvet. Kix gets to work, opening the kit, cleaning the wounds, removing the shards, and wrapping the area in the medical wrap.

Once Kix tied off the wrap, he packed up the kit and told Fern to get some rest, before returning downstairs to inform his brothers of what has just occurred.
