Einaris stood at the top of the cliff face, staring down to the sparkling ocean below. Pax sat beside her, his tail swaying in the gentle breeze.

If only Kestrel were here.

Einaris saw a glint in the corner of her eye.

Pax drew up to it and sniffed it.

A pebble, about the size of her palm, emerald in colour and with veins of dark green, like ivy.

Einaris bent down and picked up the stone.

It shimmered like fire but was as cool as ice.

Einaris walked back to the cliff edge and examined its surface, when a rogue breeze, caused her to lose her balance and sent her toppling backwards. Only a couple of feet lay between her and death.

Furrowing her eyebrows, Einaris strolled back to where she sat before, but she couldn't move. Like a magnet had stuck her feet to the ground.

Under her shoes, the ground began to crumble, the top of the cliff slipping from sight. Her half of her name tag flew off, leaving ARIS.

Aris jolted awake with a start, the green stone in her palm, glowing faintly.

Aris' breath snagged in her throat.

Einaris.

She was Einaris.

But who was Einaris?

And why was Kestrel looking for her?
