"Luciano è come suo nonno." Peaking my head out of the corner I hid in when I heard footsteps, I see Luca's grandma standing with Benito's son, Michele. "In tutti i sensi." She adds in with a pointed look and I do my best to commit the words to my memory to translate it later.

"I have nothing to worry or fear about. He's been distracted with-"

"Enough," she hisses. "Do not test him, Mickey. I've witnessed the repercussions just for speaking the wrong thing... I love you as if you were my own grandchild. Luciano is my grandchild. This petty... It will not end well. You need to stop before it is too late."

Holding my breath, my mind races to piece what they're talking about together. It would help if I knew the history between Luca and his cousin but he's never mentioned him. Which means he rarely thinks about the man. He didn't care enough about Michele for reasons unknown and it seems like that might be a mistake.

Something about the only two people who were unwelcoming and agitated by my presence tonight, being huddled in a quiet hall far away from the dinning room where everyone else was unsettled me. Especially with Luca being at the center of their conversation.

"The walls have ears." Michele said as if sensing that someone is listening to them before ushering Daniela to a room further down the hall.

I waited a few moments before returning back to Luca.

As the image of myself becomes sharper in the mirror, I sway on my feet before blinking away the memory of last night.

Fickle imagination. Cynicism. Whatever you want to call it, something wasn't right about the conversation. And after looking up the translation to Daniela's words--Luciano is like his grandpa. In more ways than one.-- I knew after this gala I'd have to tell Luca to be careful around them.

The sad part is, if I never overheard that conversation, I would say that dinner with the Cosentino's was great.

At the 50 seater table, every seat was filled with extended family and friends.

The first person I met when I walked into the dining room was Luca's aunt, Elsa. She was gorgeous: sea blue eyes, dark brown hair with blonde highlights, and a bright smile. After introductions I met her husband Gio, who was blond, before she called her children over. Lovisa, was the oldest, at twenty-five, she resembled her grandfather the most, brown eyes with a glassy hue, dark hair, her puffy cheeks made her look younger than what she was. Next was Haelynn, 23, she also had dark hair but captivating hazel eyes and bubbly energy surrounded her. Her and Grace were close and I wasn't surprised to learn that.
