We were alike

Sometimes i recall what we used to be
when i felt like i knew you before you met me
our souls played tunes and we were in sync
Everything was conflict but we loved our small town
We were too young to know any better when we burned it to the ground

I felt the depths, the heights, the dark and the glow
we enjoyed the beginning and hurt at the all time low
we were apart during the winter season
I barely made a sound trying to let it ease in

Colder days i told her and got a cold shoulder
if only we were older
I was waiting for the day that I'd be contempt
I only remembered your scent
How it made me feel
the overcoming joy and the fleeting withdrawal
I don't know where you went at all
Slowly getting better at trying not to recall
I thought i could forget you, doll
but that road brought me to you again
I know why my thoughts craved you then
I knew this time we'd be happy till nothing separated us
we had everything to win
but I watched you lose yourself in him

It took a piece of me when you got this far
I sat on the edge alone and watched you follow what you thought was true
I still think about you
I wonder how you are
did you ever drive down to Guatemala to be underneath your favorite stars
Isn't it funny how deep we thought we delve
in our odd but sweet moments in two thousand twelve
