An old flame

I had the most lovely thought
Of bringing popcorn over to you at the couch
And seeing home in what we've got
We'd sit with your head on my shoulder
And I'd feel warm while you can't help becoming colder
This feeling instilled in me
As my cat jumps on your lap while we're watching TV
Maybe the Christmas tree is in the corner
With lanky branches and candy canes
Or tucked into a closet leaving stains
While we count down to something new
I know that you are always changing and you know that I am too
I'm sorry for the times I will be unsure
I have a ways to go with you before we can infer
and guess the resolution you felt keen
see we're a story unlike any ever seen
There's inertia, the omen and imbalance in the force
and it's our destined nature to let the bad things run their course
The storyboard goes we follow through, almost choke, and interim
As science tells us everything just wants equilibrium
You've been searching for a place to rest
but heal your sores, we're on our quest
You have dramatic flair you play with soothing melody
and when we're together everything becomes stale comedy
but to us its gold
Overcoming the monster within, without, and everywhere between
Perhaps the most difficult part when we stare our own evil and deem him
as we better ourselves, I'll eat your demons
