nini quickly got up and made her way over to the teacher, her notebook still in her hand as the different students shuffled around towards their partners assigned

"uh-mr carter? would it be possible if i did the project alone?" she pleads

mr carter raises an eyebrow as he looks up from his desk "and may i ask why?"

"i-i just can't work with him-"

"if this is about-" he swallows in slight disgust "feelings-"

"no!" nini exclaims, earning a few states around her before she clears her throat and shakes her head "uh-n-no-" she says in a lower tone "i just can't work with him."

mr carter takes a deep breath as he leans onto his elbows resting on his desk "miss salazar-roberts, did he do anything worth of a detention?

"no-"

"did he do anything worth the suspension or expulsion?" he questions

"no but-"

"did he physically or emotionally hurt you in any way that is worth taking to the principle and is a serious matter?"

"no but i-"

"then you will be working with mr bowen." he finalized firmly

nini opens her mouth but he gives her a look, making her sigh in defeat as she turns around and makes her way back to her seat; where ricky was sitting beside of

"so, we're partners." he says with a smirk as he folds his arms

nini nods with an annoyed facial expression as she flips over her the pages of the handout for the project

she spent the first five minutes reading it, not taking any attention to the boy seated next to her

"so, just a question," he begins "is it a usual thing for you to run into people in halls?" he asks

she doesn't answer as she keeps her eyes on the papers

"hello?" he calls as he taps her on the shoulder multiple times

nini rolls her eyes "okay, ricky bowen, i want to do well in this project so if you're jock of a brain can't actually put in the work then i will switch partners." she snaps

ricky laughs under his breath "first off, i would love to do well in this, but you're so stubborn that you can't give me the handout for this project or talk to me normally. and second; you can't switch partners, so you're stuck with me."

he gives a whimsical smile, that usually every girl would go crazy over, but this wasn't the case

she slides the handout towards him and he takes it to read over

"okay." he says "we have to make a presentation on the book we've been studying. so we're going to have to meet up at my house, or yours-"

"no!" she exclaims, snapping her head towards him

he gives her a puzzled look with a raised eyebrow before she takes a deep breath and looks down

"uh-n-no, let's just-meet up at your house." she recovers

ricky nods cautiously "okay?"

nini quickly looks back down at her notebook and starts writing as he observes her

"you're very uptight aren't you?" he asks

she sighs but doesn't respond as she tries to continue focusing on the beginning of the task

"so, you don't speak unless it's to insult me or shout at me, you bump into people in hallways and you're probably a perfectionist." he says, nodding "you're an only child right?"

'okay that's it.'

"oh my turn!" she exclaims with a fake smile, looking up at him "you're captain of the football team, so probably the playboy right? the guy who dates all of cheerleaders from the team in less than a year?" she asks rhetorically "then-hm-oh! you don't talk unless it's about yourself or to belittle someone just like your friends and you don't care about anyone besides you!"

ricky clenches his jaw in annoyance and scoffs as he shakes his head

"doesn't feel good does it?" she snaps before returning her attention to her book "you know nothing about me." she mutters under her breath

ricky hears her words and looks down at his book as he starts writing

'you don't either.'
