nini continued working on the dishes while ricky was in the room in silence, not quiet knowing what to say
ricky comes up and starts wiping a few cutlery and she quickly turns to face him
"oh-no that's okay-"
"i said i would help," he chuckles
she smiles and nods "okay,"
she turns back and continues washing the plates while he wipes them down in silence
it was honestly kind of awkward
nini just started realizing her feelings for him and she doesn't really know what to say
"the sundae was good." he says with a smirk
she looks back at him and smiles slightly "i told you,"
he chuckles and they continue to do the dishes in silence before ricky speaks up again
"so, how's your music thing going?" he asks
she looks up quickly and freezes in her spot before realizing that he only knew about her playing instruments "oh! that-uh-it's fine. normal. and you?"
he nods "it's okay,"
she swallows "and-uh-have you found that-girl yet?"
he sighs and shakes his head "nope,"
she feels relief flood through her but makes sure she doesn't show it and continues to do her part
"so, what's up with you and ej?" he asks her
nini raises her eyebrows and looks at him, taking a wet towel as she starts wiping her hands
"me and ej?" she questions confused "what about me and ej?"
"well i mean-" he gestures behind them "you both-you know-"
she opens her mouth "wait-what?! oh! no! no no no no no no no," she exclaims, laughing nervously "no."
he widens his eyes "oh! sorry i-"
"no it's fine, we're more like family rather than...that." she assures him
ricky nods "okay,"
"why are you asking?"
"hm?"
nini raises an eyebrow and laughs "are you jealous?"
ricky scoffs playfully "i'm not jealous,"
she smirks. it was fun this time to be on this side of the conversation
"i mean, i get it-"
he laughs and throws the wet dish towel at her, making her gasp
"seriously?!" she exclaims before taking the wet towel in her hands and throwing it at him, making a bit of water spray out
"oh okay," he breathes before they start having a dish towel fight
she takes water from the tap and sprays some on him before he gasps and starts running after her
nini squeals as she feels him slide his hands around her waist and lifts her up off the ground, twirling her around
he finally puts her down and the two look at their hair and clothes all wet as they laugh
they both gaze at each other for a few seconds and he smiles slightly when he looks at her, nini feeling the heat rise to her cheeks
he takes a deep breath and the two snap out of their trance before pulling away
"we should-get this all dried up." she says
he nods "oh yeah, for sure,"
she smiles to herself as they both continue their way around the kitchen
they get it all cleaned up right before carol, dana and owen return from the video game store and the two women walk into the kitchen to see ricky and nini finishing up
"i'm sorry about that ricky," dana sighs with a small smile
ricky shakes his head "it's all good,"
he glances at nini and she swallows before scratching the back of her head
"i should go though," he says
nini nods "i'll-walk you out."
dana and carol exchange knowing looks as the two teens leave the kitchen and ricky says a goodbye to owen before they both put their coats on and make their way outside
they both feel the cold air come over them and see the snow surrounding them as they head to ricky's car
he turns to look at her and smiles "thanks for inviting me,"
she returns the gesture "glad you came, hope you had fun," she laughs
he joins her and nods "i did."
ricky widens his eyes in realization and quickly opens the car door, making nini jump in slight fright
he closes the door again with a rectangular wrapped box in his hands and gives it to her
nini opens her mouth in surprise and takes it hesitantly
"ricky-i-i didn't get you anything-"
he shakes his head with a smile "you let me spend the day with your family, that was enough."
she exhaled as she looks down at the present "i don't know what to say-"
he chuckles and shrugs his shoulders "i hope you like it."
she looks up at him and hugs him without a second thought and ricky takes a deep breath before wrapping his arms around her waist
they both stay there for a few moments before pulling apart and look at each other
"i should go," he says quietly, keeping his eyes on her
nini nods "yeah,"
they continue looking at each other before he shakes his head lightly and opens the car door
she takes a step back and waves at him as he smiles at her through the window before starting the car and driving away from the house
nini looks back down at the present and shakes her head with a small laugh before turning around and making her way back into the house
