nini woke up on a wednesday morning completely not bothered.

she dragged herself out of her bed and got ready for another day of school, another day of avoiding ricky with all of her strength and another day of trying to ignore all of the little whispers and stares that were being shot at her

when she arrived down the stairs and into the kitchen, she sees owen eating his food while talking to ej who currently was eating his own plate of food and carol sat at the table, listening to their conversation with interest

"no harry can't be a horcrux because otherwise he dies!" owen exclaims in disbelief

"oh come on! it's obvious," ej laughs

"no because then the hero of the story has to die and he can't die!" owen whines

"but don't you wonder about that scar?" ej smirks

"okay, don't do that to me." owen sighs

nini raises her eyebrows as she sits down and laughs weakly

"i'm finished eating and i'll be in my room, reading the rest of the book. no one interrupt me unless there's a fire or someone's dying." owen exclaims, rolling out of the kitchen and towards the stairs where his chair is to help him up

"you had to spoil it?" nini says with a small smile

"hey, i didn't spoil it. i just gave him a piece of the humongous puzzle," ej shrugs

"you ready?" nini asks

"let's go," ej smiles as the two stand up

"bye mom!" nini exclaims

"have a good day at school honey!" carol calls back

nini takes a deep breath and they both go to ej's car heading to east high

when they arrive, they walk into the building to see the usual stares and hear the usual whispers

she adjusts the strap of her bag uncomfortably while they continue walking

"nini,"

she stops and turns around to see ricky standing behind her, big red and ashlyn leaning against the lockers further away watching

ej opens his mouth with a small smile of happiness and nini stays there with a blank expression

everyone saw that there was tension, which of course made them come over to watch what was happening

nini takes a deep breath and tries to walk away but ricky rushes over to her

"can we please talk-"

"talk?" nini scoffs "we have nothing to-"

"but we do-"

"no ricky just leave me alone," she says quietly "you haven't done anything to fix what happened. and you won't either."

ricky glances at ej who just shrugs his shoulders before ricky looks at her for a few seconds and nods "hey everyone listen up!"

the hall becomes silent and nini opens her mouth in surprise

ej widens his eyes and looks around to see half of the student body here, watching

"people keep spreading around rumors about me and nini and how we should or shouldn't be together." he says loudly

nini looked down and felt her heartbeat accelerating every second

"and most of these rumors are about how nini wants to be with me, or that i'm too good for her."

she folds her arms and feels her eyes sting slightly

"but no one is talking about what i want, and no one is asking about how i feel. they're just assuming."

"we did talk." she says

ricky shakes his head "no, you talked. how you feel is important, but how i feel is important too-"

"okay, fine we get it ricky." she snaps

he sees the hurt in her eyes and sighs, walking towards her slowly as she continues to speak

"i'm really sick and tired of you people tearing people like me down over and over again. but you know what? go ahead and tell them all about how diner girl is too average to be with perfect-"

she gets cut off by ricky cupping her face and smashing his lips on hers

gasps fill the hall and ej, big red, ashlyn, kourtney and seb all cheer happily

nini felt the warmth flood through her body and instantly closed her eyes at the contact, forgetting everything and ricky felt the exact same thing

they both pull away and he looks at her, nini not knowing what to say as the bell rings signaling for their first class
