Half of the day was a repeat, only except Byleth wanted some time alone for himself. He left the territory and headed out in the open world to find a perfect place to rest a little.
It did not take long to find one. A small lake nearby, the fields of sunflowers miles away. In the horizons are mountains, with no sign of human activity.
Landing on ground, he disabled his wings made of dark matter and sat near the bank. Byleth sighed heavily with his eyes closing, as the tension and annoyance of dealing with the usual shit waves off like a flow of river. He hardly ever had his time, with all the training suddenly intensified as the War is on the brink.
"Finally... some peace and quiet..." he muttered to himself.
While the war is the one thing he isn't looking forward to, the fact the Omegas would be after him is what he dreads the most. Though Bella tells him that accepting his fate Omega would solve it, but it wasn't that simple. Well, for him if she takes account of his wishes.
Though the revelation of Zeldris being his fated mate still trembled him. How the hell did that even happen? What the hell was life trying to do, make this into some kind of twisted joke? Get him to suffer?
Did he deserve this for being the only Alpha around? Resign him to fulfill the role of trying to reproduce more Alphas? No, Alphas should deserve to die out. He deserves to die out.
But then again... an Alpha or two would be born after he expired. If any of the Betas with their Omega partner got lucky.
That's when second thoughts started to occur, wondering if Byleth should just give it a try. He was still against getting a mate but...
The scent of roses and lavender hits him out of nowhere, and Byleth was pulled from his thoughts. Metallic hands cupped his face from behind, and he did nothing about it. After all, he knows full well who it is with his Alpha side perked up at the familiar scent.
"Lord Zeldris." Byleth simply greeted, which earned him a chuckle from the Omegan prince.
"No need for formalities, darling." He heard him purring slightly, the hands now moved to curl around his chest with his chin resting on the broad shoulder. "You and I are fated mates, Byleth."
"Aren't you taking this too fast?" The mint haired Demon furrowed his brows. "I didn't say I agree to us becoming mates just yet."
"Fated pairs are willing to get closer the moment they are discovered." The other demon tells him, leaning against him with a content look on his face. "Helps to strengthen the bond and trust before marking."
Byleth noticed right away that unlike the other times he caught a glimpse of him, Zeldris is completely relaxed around him. He was always guarded, cold, and silently commands respect from lesser demons. He was being... a bit of an opposite.
"I don't mean to be rude but... shouldn't you be taking care of other business?"
"No need. Besides, I rather spend my time with you." His supposed fated Omega responded to him.
With a small exhale, Byleth moves in his spot to turn around. His dark eyes met the other pair of dark eyes of Zeldris, both of them facing each other after he moved himself back a little from embracing Byleth from behind.
"I'm still against the idea of having a mate, but I suppose I'll give it a chance." Byleth tells him.
"What changed?" Zeldris questioned him with a tilt of his head.
"One, it was out of consideration to get those other damn Omegas off from my back. Two, my Alphan side won't stop bothering me ever since the last time we saw each other. And three, as much as I hate to admit it, but that kiss you gave me got me whipped." Byleth explained to him bluntly.
