Chapter 5
After a month of living in the institute, Victoria was getting use to living here. She missed going out and Alec was too busy to "accompany" her.
Alec and Victoria started becoming civil and would do five questions game when they would speak to get to know each other.
"I can't believe it's been over a month," Victoria smiled. "Time flies when you aren't angry," chucked Alec. "Also it's my turn," "Okay fine," groaned Victoria. "When was your first kiss," Alec asked?
Victoria turned red from his question and replied "I don't want to answer that," which made Alec laugh and reply "Well you get punished than" which made Victoria groan and replied "fine, what do you want me to do,"
"Train with me, lazy," Alec asked. "No way, I'll die," Victoria yelled. "A punishment is a punishment," Alec replied
"But I don't like working out or any of the fighting you do, I don't think I need to fight, my husband will protect me," Victoria replied with sarcasm. She didn't realize that Alec was staring at her, that's the first time she acknowledged him as her "husband."
Victoria couldn't help but stare back, she never focused on his features until now and recalled Cassie calling him handsome which he was which made her blush.
"Let's go, go change, I'll teach you some self defense,"
Victoria pouted but agreed as they walked into the training room where Izzy and Jace were. "Is it me, or he's been spending time with her," Izzy asked?
"He has," Jace replied in anger as he went back to kicking his punching bag. "Hit the bag," Alec told her and she nodded and punched it and it bounced back at her. "I'm going to try again, hold it," Victoria spoke as she tried to concentrate on hitting the bag which she hit. "Okay, now push up,"
"Now I know you are trying to kill me," Victoria muttered which got a laugh out of Alec and Izzy couldn't help but stare and think "What is she doing to him," and gave Jace a look. "Alec, let me train with her," Izzy spoke which Victoria suddenly turned around breathing harshly.
"I think she's done, she seems tired," Alec answered knowing Izzy would not play nice. He knew Victoria barely worked out and this was the most she did but he did want her to learn to protect herself. If she can't use magic, she should learn the basics he thought.
"It's okay," Victoria spoke catching her breath.
Alec knew it was a good idea but agreed. Jace came over to see Izzy "train" with Victoria. "This is going to fun," laughed Jace which Alec didn't reciprocate. Izzy was showing Victoria how to trip someone by putting their leg underneath their knee. "Try," Izzy spoke as Victoria tried to push her leg but Izzy caught her and was able to throw Victoria on the floor. "Come on get up,"
Victoria tried getting up but ended up on the ground again but tried throwing a punch which Izzy blocked.
Alec was growing frustrated seeing Victoria being thrown on the floor multiple times but Jace pushed aside so he wouldn't be able to stop it
"Just training," Jace laughed as Victoria fell for the 7th time and couldn't catch her breath.
"I can't,"
Izzy realized Victoria wouldn't stand a chance so she stopped. Alec pushed passed them to get to Victoria and gave Izzy a look of disappointment and frowned when he noticed Victoria couldn't get up. Alec decided to carry her to the room which made Jace more angry.
"He's been neglecting us and training for that bitch," Jace grew angry. "I promise, I'm going to make her regret this," "Jace relax," Izzy tried reasoning as he walked away. As much as Izzy didn't like her, she felt guilty for pushing Victoria. She knew Victoria had no prior training and she last barely 10 minutes. While Alec was taking Victoria back to their room she spoke "That was hard, we aren't taught that," As Alec placed her on the bed he finally spoke "Are you hurt," and she nodded but patted the bed for him to sit.
"I guess you made a good point in learning, but I really don't like it, I rather make fire or use earth to defend myself," Victoria spoke.
"I didn't make the rule about you not using magic, I know you want too, I see you reading your spell book but I can't help you there," Alec replied which made Victoria frown and reply "I know, it's just, imagine being de-runed, that's how I feel. It's like I'm living like a mundane but so helpless and all these wards don't allow me to do anything, I use to dry my hair by just whipping my hand, make fire from my hands, and now I'm useless,"
Victoria didn't realize she had tears pouring her eyes. She missed her magic. It felt like her hands were cut off and being without magic for almost 2 months made her feel so distant she didn't know who she was anymore. Alec moved closer to her and used his fingers to stop her tears and whisper "I'm sorry" which only made her cry harder and ended up falling asleep. —- Izzy decided she wanted to speak to Victoria after the incident but Alec advised her she was sleeping and not bother her until tomorrow.
"Alec seems to be fond of her, but Jace hates her, we aren't suppose to like her," Izzy thought as she paced in her room until Alec showed up "Mission, demons are hunting mundane blood," Izzy hurried and changed and put on a "blonde" wig and went to meet her brother and Jace in the Ops room.
"Hey there big bro," smirked Izzy.
"Really," Alec scoffed? "Demons dig blondes," she laughed.
Alec just stared and replied "of course they do but that's white," "Platinum," Izzy corrected.
Alec groaned as Izzy continued "We are going to a club, could've dressed better," which made Alec roll his eye and reply "don't need too, you do the wonderful distractions on your own." As soon as Jace saw Izzy he smirked "Nice choice Izzy, Demons dig blondes," "told you," Izzy stuck out her tongue to Alec annoyance.
Before they could leave, Victoria was in the ops room when they were discussing "mundane blood" "Why would demons want mundane blood," she spoke out loud
"Nothing," Alec spoke with disgusted. He didn't like mundanes which made Izzy laugh in response "You get me a sample, and I'll tell you exactly what they are looking for.
Victoria raised an eyebrow "This seems strange," to which Jace replied "Let us handle it, from where we stand, you can barely lift a finger," as he grabbed his seraph blade.
Alec gave Victoria and apologetic look as she half smiled and decided to go see Hodge "Don't you think too many demons are attacking lately, doesn't seem like a coincidence. Hodge laughed at her comment and passed her tea so she would relax. They both developed a routine where they'd have tea and talk which Victoria enjoyed because he was her only friends besides Alec.
"I see Alec is starting to talk to you," Hodge mutter as Victoria giggle "A bit" "You know, I can maybe ask my friends, there has to be something they know," to which Hodge replied "Doesn't hurt to ask"
Victoria texted Cassie Victoria: Cassie, have you heard about these demon attacks? Not a second later Cassie replied Cassie: I heard Valentine is alive. Josephine and the elders are panicking.
Victoria eyes widen as she showed the text to Hodge. "I should let Alec know when he's back," Hodge was pretty calm about the news but knew Victoria was nervous and spoke "Not all information is reliable"
"Cassie is reliable," she spoke and noticed Alec and Izzy returned but not Jace. Victoria followed Alec "Alec, where is Jace,"
"He'll be back," Alec softly spoke and Victoria spoke "I think Valentine's alive," to which Alec raised and eye brow and Victoria showed him the texts Alec cut Victoria off "not possible, he died,"
"But listen, he could be," Victoria explained as they got to their room. Alec was frustrated form the mission and Jace trying to save the "mundane girl" which made him tune out Victoria as she was making arguments about maybe Valentine is alive. He might have heard her mentioned "he does have kids," that snapped his attention back but ended up snapping "You don't know anything, you stay here everyday and read or do Clave paperwork, you never probably even seen a demon, let us do our job and you can go back to reading,"
Victoria was shocked, she thought they were making progress and he snapped at her for no reason and sighed "I'll go check on Izzy.
"Yeah because she really wants to see you," Alec muttered under his breath in annoyance that Victoria heard as she walked out. "Izzy," Victoria called and they both just kinda stood there quiet until Jace brought a red haired girl in. "Who is that," Victoria asked which ended up being ignored and spoke again "you guys can't keep pretending I don't exist," Jace laughed "Try me"
Izzy stared at the frustrated girl who just sat in the corner sulking until the red head woke up. The red head was so panicked until Izzy and Jace somewhat calmed her. "I'm Jace Wayland," Jace introduced when the red head was about to introduce herself she was cute off by Jace "Clary Fray, we know who you are,"
Her name got a Victoria's attention as Alec walked in "Am I the only one who finds this unusual," "You find everything unusual," snickered Izzy. "I have to report this to the Clave," Alec spoke. Jace sighed irritated "Dial it down a notch," "My brother doesn't have a dial," laughed Izzy
"Just give me a minute," spoke Jace adding "Please" which made Alec give in. This made Victoria get up and walk towards Alec to whisper "Can we please talk," to which he nodded. He didn't know why Clary irritated him so much and regretted snapping at Victoria. As they both walked out the room he was about to apologize but stopped by Victoria "Don't, I don't want to hear your apology," which made Alec frown but spoke "What did you want to say," "Clary Fray, Fairchild," Victoria spoke which Alec stared confused.
"I was reading history of Shadowhunter, maybe she is one like Jace mentioned, a Fairchild. The family tree show Jocelyn as the last descendant but what if she had a child," to which Alec disagreed and replied "this is what you wanted to say,"
"I can do more research," she questioned and he nodded. "Her name sounds familiar, not just in the books but witches know, yes they did some clandestine activities and we know more than I think some shadowhunter," she barely whispered those word which somewhat irritated him but he listened.
"Fine," Alec replied as he started walking away but Victoria "you can't keep treating me like this," which made him turn around. "Like what,"
"This, snapping at me, not listening to what I say, I'm not your punching bag," she finally spoke her mind. "I'm your wife," she spoke the last words as a whisper.
Alec knew he was wrong but with Jace on his back, Izzy questioning him about Victoria, new shadhowhunter, he didn't have time to deal with Victoria's current behavior. Even though he knew deep down she was right because he kept on behaving moody towards her "In name only," which made Victoria frown deeper.
"Okay, I'm sorry," Alec spoke, "is this what you want," he spoke a bit louder which made Victoria just sigh "Forget it," and walked away from him. Alec groaned as he knew he messed up again. Victoria and he were making progress in their "relationship" or whatever you'd call what they have. Yes he cared for her and enjoyed her company but didn't know where they were. He recently started noticing her face and admitted she was beautiful. Alec groan again realizing he knew she would be upset but hated her communication abilities.
Alec thought "the one time she opens up fully, I shut her down, nice going," He was very frustrated but he knew he had to fix this now and went to his room. He's deal with Jace and the other later. As he was about to enter he heard Victoria on the phone. "What do you mean Kaleb is back," Victoria whispered.
"Kaleb," Alec thought wondering who he was, he doesn't remember a Kaleb on the wedding invites.
Victoria spoke again "This doesn't make sense," until Alec entered the room and she quickly said her goodbyes and was walking pass Alec to head to the bathroom but Alec blocked her way. "Move," she sighed and Alec nodded but Victoria was about to move him herself but he stopped her and ended up hugging her "I'm sorry, I don't trust Clary, Jace is annoying and I am being irritated. I shouldn't have taken it out on you,"
This was the first time he hugged her and apologized "I'll try not to do that again," he spoke again as she didn't answer. Alec didn't like showing any emotion that would make him look weak or vulnerable. This was new to him and he didn't know how to deal with it After a few minutes Victoria finally hugged him back and whispered "You are still an idiot," which made him chuckle.
"I tried using magic," Victoria admitted that made Alec stop hugging her and stare at her. "And it hurt," she spoke pointing at her finger where Alec noticed her pinky finger was burned which made his eyes widen "Did you know they'd do this," and she nodded
"Why did you do it," Victoria took a deep breath "it's hard, I didn't know they'd put counter measures. What if I go outside,"
Alec knew she was still struggling with not doing magic and not going out. He actually spoke to his mom regarding her going outside recently because he felt she needed air and wasn't their prisoner to which Maryse scolded him and told him she is the "enemy." "I'm going to try to speak to the Clave about going outside," which shocked Victoria "I trust you," Alec spoke again and Victoria replied "So do I,"
Victoria ended up hugging Alec again and burying her head in his chest. She didn't know why but the past few days, every time he was away she missed him but she wouldn't admit it. They both just stood there which they both wanted to last forever.
