February. A month full of weather seizures, but not as much as March. Also, there are leap years and it makes magic jumps from one day less to a day more. It's crazy, isn't it? It even has this strange tradition on the 14'th date called Valentine's Day, aka the day for the people in love.
That was today, actually. And as the gems that lived here on Earth knew that humans celebrate lots of different holidays and events, the years spent here taught them that on Valentine's Day, you can make a card or get a gift to anyone special to you. You can ask them to be your Valentine, or just spend it alone, eating chocolate and crying. Both works.
Anyway, our main focus isn't on those uncorrupted gems today, it's in the beach house. Steven was sat on the soft couch, a pair of scissors in his hand as he gripped on a red colored paper, cutting it to some shape he was thinking of in his head. It came out as a nearly perfect shape of a heart once Steven finally seperated the shape from the paper. But he wasn't sure what to do with it, who would he write to? He looked at the rest of the scattered paper on the table, all the little containers with glitter and all the tools to make these cards as cute and as romantic as possible. While he was thinking about who could possibly be his Valentine this year, Amethyst jumped on the couch next to him, causing a little shake. "Yo, Steven ! Working on a card too?" she asked, her smile wide and her voice full of excitement. "Who's the lucky girl, huh?" she teased and nudged his shoulder in a joking manner. He didn't make any cards since Connie left, it was almost a surprise he was doing it this year.
Steven sighed, "no one"
"What do you mean?" Amethyst asked, confusion overtaking her whole expression. This was getting depressing.
"I don't know who to write to, or if I should even continue to" he explained and placed the held objects down on the table. Soon moving his hands to rest on his lap.
Amethyst frowned and placed a comforting hand on his shoulder, "that sucks, man. Can't you write it to Connie or something?"
"Would she even read it? She's obviously so busy, -and she probably even has someone already" he gestured, obviously scared someone would take his Connie away this year.
"Come on, dude, don't be so sad all the time! You'll surprise her!" she raised her voice, nearly chuckling. "Who cares if someone else asked her? She'll choose you over anyone"
Steven sighed, "it's not that simple"
"Uh, Steven. You can do what you want, I was just trying to help, y'know?" she removed her hand and lazily let herself lie down on the soft surface of the couch. "Try to chill, nobody's forcing you to do anything"
"I know" Steven said, already making up his mind to give up this year aswell. It was really hard to write to someone that was so far away. You didn't know what they were doing without you, maybe they moved on and found more friends. You wouldn't wanna feel like a burden. And a Valentine from far away sounded really stupid to Steven as an idea anyway.
"Are you gonna do anything with that?" Amethyst asked straight out of the blue, pointing at Steven's half finished card.
"No" Steven sighed and handed it to her, the gem replying with "sweet" and stuffing it in her mouth.
Though, there was no time for having a depressing episode. Steven Universe Future was already full of those, let's see what Pearl's doing! Where is she anyway?- Ah, nevermind. The warp pad activated and showed the happy Pearl standing there with her phone in her pale hands. Her eyes carefully scanned the room before landing on her two friends, Steven and Amethyst. "Ohh, Stevenn ! I need a little help with something" her loud voice almost sang. This was probably the last thing Steven needed right now. Pearl. Pearl of all people had a Valentine and wanted to be part of 'stupid human celebrations', and not Steven. Still, that didn't mean Steven was upset about it, he was actually really proud of her for choosing to be part of something like this.
