I was so excited. I had straightened my hair, whitened my teeth and bought out my finest summer dress even though summer was over.

It was the first day back at school. I took a deep breath as I stepped into the gates of Goode. And then I saw him. His sea green eyes glinted in the sunlight and his messy black hair flew wildly in the wind.  Percy Jackson.

We had been friends since he joined last year. Since then, a lot had gone on.

Rachel Elizabeth Dare had left at the end of last year to go to some all girls boarding school. As much as I liked Rachel, I was a little relieved. Rachel had had a huge crush on Percy, but now that she was out of the way, it was my turn. I straightened my dress and strolled over,

"Hey Percy," I said casually. He looked over at me and his face lit up,

"Lacey! Hey, what's up? How was your summer?" He asked.

So he's excited to see me?  I thought.

"Same old, same old," I replied, "What about you? You basically disappeared off the face of the Earth," Percy blushed and mumbled something about a camp. I shook my head and laughed.

"So, Percy I wanted to talk to you about something," he looked at me with raised eyebrows, "In private," I added. He nodded and led me over away from everyone else.

This is it  I thought It's now or never ...

And then the bell rang. I groaned in defeat.

"I'll tell you later," I grumbled as I made my way to Maths, while Percy made his way to English... all the way on the other side of the school

Six hours later

When I stepped outside of school, the spring in my step had returned. When I exited the gates, I saw Percy sat on a bench in the middle of the parking lot. I crossed it and sat down next to Percy who was watching the road intently,

"Hello?" I said. Percy looked over at me, smiling,

"Hey Lacey. What are you doing here?" He asked. I felt a little offended. Did he not want me here? Percy seemed to pick up on this and he said,

"I meant, didn't you drive to school?"

"Oh, my dad gave me a lift, you?"

"I walked, but I'm getting a lift home," He replied. At the thought of getting a lift, his eyes lit up. I guess he was tired. In the end, curiosity got the better of me,

"Why is getting a lift so exciting?" I asked. Just then, a blue jeep pulled into the parking lot,

"It's not about the lift," He replied, "It's about who's giving it,"

As  if on cue, the door to the jeep opened and a girl stepped out. She was about a head taller than me, but still shorter than Percy. Her perfectly tanned skin seemed to be glowing. Her perfect face was framed with golden blonde princess curls and her stormy grey eyes glinted in the sun.

Percy seemed to be staring at her, as she made her way over to us. When the girl reached us, she wrapped her arm around Percy's waist and looked up at him,

"Hey seaweed brain," She said softly. He stared at her,

"Hey, wise girl," He said before leaning down and kissing her. Something seemed to shatter inside of me. They broke apart and stared into each others eyes before Percy realised that I was still stood there. He looked at me, blushing.

"Oh, um, Lacey. Sorry," I just smiled awkwardly.

"Didn't you want to ask me something?" He asked, trying to change the subject of awkwardness. I shook my head, not wanting to say anything for fear of bursting into tears. My head just kept snapping between the two of them.

"I'm Annabeth Chase," Said the girl, sticking out her hand. I didn't take it, instead, I ran. I ran from her. I ran from him. But most of all, I ran from the heart ache. The heart ache that she got there first. The heart ache that Percy Jackson would not be mine.

And that was how I met Annabeth Chase.

I know that this isn't very good, but ah well. There are more coming and hopefully they get better!
