Meredith woke up. Her baby had been kicking all night. She then realized, she can't go to the hospital. It had just rained and a huge storm is going on.
"Pick up. Pick up."
She told herself, trying to call Bailey.
"Yes, Grey?"
"Hello. I can't come in today. The weather and all. I'm not about to get on the road with ice everywhere."
"Yeah I understand. Go get some sleep or shower Grey."
"Thanks ok."
Just as she hung up, she felt a sharp pain in her stomach.
"No. No. No. not now."
She was having a contraction.
Meredith's POV
I need to call Alex.
"Alex."
"Yes Mer?" He asked in a worried tone.
"I think I'm in labor."
"Uh. Ok. How far apart are your contractions?"
"About 20 minutes I wanna say."
"Umm. Ok. How dilated are you?"
"Uhh. 2 centimeters."
"Ok. I can't come to you because the storm. If it comes down to it, do you think you can do this? I will stay on the phone."
"Yeah. I think so. Thanks."
"Call me back when your at 5 centimeters. I have a surgery."
As minutes or hours went by. She couldn't tell. She wasn't keeping track of time. Her contractions got closer and closer.
"I am 4 centimeters."
I'm calling Alex I can't do this.
"Mer, are you ok?"
"No. I can't do this."
"Yes you can. Just breathe. I'll stay on the phone."
A while later
"How far are you?"
"I'm at 9 centimeters. Ahh." She tried to say while hissing through the pain.
"Ok. Prepare yourself I'm not going to sugarcoat this. It will hurt like hell."
"I know."
Meredith sat the phone up beside her, just so Alex can tell her what to do.
"Ok Meredith, on your next contraction, push."
"Ok." Meredith did just that.
"Alex, I can't do this. I can't do this without Derek."
"It's ok Mer. Just keep going."
In less than an hour, Meredith gave birth to a beautiful little girl.
"What is her name?"
"Lexie Ellis Grey-Shepherd."
"I love it. Do you want me to stay on here?"
"No no. Your ok. Go fix up a kid."
"Ok. Love you Mer."
"Love ya."
And that night, Meredith's room wasn't so empty anymore.
