The Sound of Silence.

Meredith just hit 18 weeks. She had a small but visible bump. Derek held Meredith close to him. With his hand on her stomach.

BEEP BEEP BEEP

"Ughhh. I don't wanna go to work." Mer groaned.
"I know. But today we have an appointment. Remember?"
"Yeah. Can you ge-."
Meredith ran to the bathroom and threw up everything she ate last night.

"Here." Derek wiped her mouth and pulled her hair back into a messy bun.
"Do you want water?"
"Yes please."
"I'll get Lexie. Then I'll bring you some."
"Ok. Thank you."

Mer got ready. She was wearing a blue shirt with white washed jeans.

"Here. I made you some pancakes."
"Thank you." Meredith replied with a smile.

"Ok love bug. Are you ready to eat?" Meredith asked Lexie.
She tore a pancake into small pieces and placed them on the food tray in front of her daughter.

Meredith went to clean up the kitchen and grab the diaper bag.
All of a sudden, she heard small muffled cries along with choking sounds.

She ran away from the sink and to her baby.
She was choking.
She turned her over and slammed her palm into Lexie's back.
"Shh. Shhh. Your ok." She said as she held her baby close.
"Is everything ok?" Derek asked walking in.
"Yea she just choked. She is ok."
"Ok. We better go or we will be late."
"Let's go then."

They arrived to the hospital and dropped Lexie off.
"Are you ready?"
"No. But let's go."

They went up to OB.

"Hello Meredith." Connie said.
"Hi."
"We're gonna take a look here."

She squeezed the gel onto Mer's swollen stomach and gently placed the probe.

The heard a swooshing sound.
"That's the heartbeat."

"Do you want to know the gender?"
"Yes please."

"looks like a....boy!"

"Awe."

"Well everything looks fine. Be careful."
"Thanks Connie." Derek said, helping Meredith get dressed.

"Here that? 'Be careful.' Because I have a very very hostile uterus. And shoot shoot daddy is after me."
"He is locked up Mer. And the baby will be fine. Here." He said giving her jeans back.

"Whatever. I love you."
"I love you too."
BEEP BEEP BEEP
"911 I have to go."

"What do we got?"

"John Doe. Multiple crush injuries. Laceration to the chest. No obvious neurological problems but get a CT to be sure."

"Let's get him inside. Prep a trauma bay."

Meredith was palpating his abdomen. Then he woke up.
"Hi. I'm Dr. Grey. Can you tell me your name?"
"Lou."
"Ok Lou. Do you remember what happened?"
"I remember driving to the store then getting in a wreck."
"Ok. We are going to get you to a CT scan Lou."
"Fine with me Dr."

They entered the CT room and Meredith was helping him lay on the bed.
"My family and I came here to explore. We were going to go se the Space Needle. Now I'm seeing all kinds of needles." Him and Mer laughed.
"Ok Lou. You gotta stay still for me."
"Yes Dr. Grey."
