"Ok so, I have your results." A resident came in. Dr. McCrae had a patient to tend to at the moment.

Meredith and Derek knew what was going to come out of her mouth.

"Ok.." Der trailed.

"It's not leukemia."

"What?" Meredith sighed, shocked.

"No, it sounds crazy but it's really just influenza."

"The flu?! This is all just the flu?! You're crazy!" Derek yelled.

"Well, you also have a low vitamin count which is why the bruising comes so easily. And no, it's not just the flu. It's the newest version of the flu. So it's worse and if not watched, deadly. You're a doctor so I'm assuming you have heard about this. That's all it is. I do want to keep you here though for observation and medication."

"You're crazy." Mer scoffed.

"I'm not."

"So, I'm ok?"

"Yes."

Mer sighed. Ok. She was gonna be fine.

That was until she had a coughing fit that scratched at her throat.

"THIS IS NOT THE DAMN FLU!" Derek yelled.

"I- I'm only a resident. I-I will go get Dr. McCrae."

The resident ran out as Mer was coughing and crying.

"It's ok. You're ok." Derek breathed.

"I-it h-hurts" she sighed back.

"I know."

They waited for a while before Dr. McCrae came in.

"So, what happened?"

"Your resident told us it was just the flu." Derek snarked.

"It's not."

"Yea..." they both said.

"It is cancer. It's leukemia. I'm sorry."

Mer nodded.

"But we are pretty positive that it's only stage 2. Giving you at least 55% chance of overcoming it. But until we get a spinal tap, that's the percentage. Once we get a good reading, it should have an accurate percentage."

"Ok. Can we get it over with?"

"Of course. I'll be back."

"Der.." Mer croaked from her raw throat. She hadn't done anything yet and she was exhausted. She knew that once she started tr, it would only get worse.

"Yea?" He asked and kissed her forehead.

"Do we have to do this? If I do the treatment, it's only gonna get worse. And..and I feel like crap already. I don't know if I can do it."

"Mer....I will support you..through whatever you choose to do. But..I would like for you to fight. I can't watch it slowly kill you. I can't be here if you aren't."

"But it's leukemia Der." She sobbed. "And it already sucks."

"I know. I know it sucks. But think about..when Lexie gets married. Or goes to college. You want to see that, right?"

"Of course I do, Derek." She snapped.

She saw him flinch at her outbursts and guilt washed over her.

"Sorry.." she sighed and held her head, sobbing.

"It's ok. I'm not upset." He hugged her.

"Ok, you guys ready for this?" Dr. McCrae came back.

"No...but yes." Mer said.

"Ok. Let's get started."

To be continued. I'm sorry it's short. I just don't have much inspo rn.
