The next morning you find yourself in line with around 500 other ARMY members, waiting to be
let into the signing event. It was clearly going to be a very long day. Not that you could bring
yourself to mind as you buzzed with anticipation, your friend on the other hand was starting to get
very frustrated.
“If they don't let us in soon you are going to owe me big time,” she grumbled. After having spent
all night standing at the concert the last thing she wanted to do today was stand in a long line just
for the chance to talk to some pretty boys.
“It won’t take too long I promise, I’ll take you for a big meal straight after we are done, I promise,”
you say trying to convince her to stay with you. You knew she wouldn’t leave you there alone, but
you also didn’t want to listen to her complain the entire time you were waiting in the queue. At 11
the conference centre opened, and you were all allowed into a large waiting room and wound
round into a more orderly line stood in twos, rather than the rabble of five or six wide you had been
before, all trying to sneak a little closer to the front. You had been pushed slightly further back in
the queue than where you had started, amongst the last few waiting to see the boys, much to your
friend’s chagrin. But you didn’t mind, the further back you were, the longer you potentially got to
spend talking to your idols, with less people behind you to rush through they might have an extra
minute or two, it was worth it.
The morning dragged into afternoon. It was 2pm by the time you could see the boys clearly. They
looked tired but happy, enjoying meeting their ARMY. That is everyone but Namjoon. He looked
flustered; he had clearly been running his hand through his hair for most of the afternoon. He
looked like he was just going through the motions, either anxious to get out, or waiting for
something more interesting to happen. Your heart dropped a little. What if he didn’t really want to
talk to you, what if you made a bad impression, what if you disappointed your bias? You glanced
at the other ARMY members around you and clearly, they could tell something was up too,
whispering around you about what might be upsetting him.
A few minutes later you’d managed to calm your anxiety slightly, focusing on the other members
had helped. Seeing their bright smiles, at jokes and presents from other fans, seeing the love they
really had for their supporters. You were really close to the front now. You kept fidgeting with
your outfit, wondering if you’d made the right choice, staring at your converse knowing it was a
stupid choice based on an old song. When you looked up again it seemed like RM's mood had
shifted, he was sat up straighter, smoothing his hair, rushing a little with the other ARMY's. It
made you curious as to what could cause the sudden shift, but before you could think too much
about it, you were being ushered forwards by the team member manning the line. Jungkook was
first along the panel, he was so genuine and lovely, you found yourself releasing a breath of
anticipation you hadn’t known you were holding as you laughed at a joke he made. Taehyung
interrupting with Random comments about how you were clearly ready to move on to him now and
that JK shouldn’t be hogging your time. At this point you were giggling shamelessly at the fake
flirty banter they were putting on. Relaxing completely before moving so V could sign your merch
too. As you made your way through the line, you felt eyes fixated on you, you looked up from J-
hope to meet the gaze of the leader at the end of the line. RM's eyes had grown dark as he stared at
you, you shifted uncomfortably under the scrutiny. Once he had realised you were staring back, he
blinked his eyes clearing and signature dimples appearing in place. The gorgeous easy smile now
on his face made your stomach flip. He was looking at you... Smiling at you. The first proper smile
that you’d seen him have since they came into view. It was breath-taking and hard to look away
from, until Suga cleared his throat to bring your attention back to him.
“Stop stealing my ARMY,” he jokingly scolded his leader. Namjoon just shrugged and kept
smiling in your direction, the girls behind you glaring bullets into your head for taking a little too long. You finally reach the end of the table and RM reaches for your hand making you blush. It felt
electric. The conversation was light but the way he kept eye contact, searching your eyes for every
little reaction did not go unnoticed, it was like he was trying to memorize you.
“Time for your picture,” one of the staff members said interrupting you. The boys stood and moved
in front of a board full of ARMY signatures. Jungkook handed you a Sharpie and pointed to a place
you and your friend could sign the poster before getting into position to take a group photo, you
went to stand respectfully in between the idols, careful not to stand too close in case they were
uncomfortable and got ready to pose. Just as the photo was about to be taken you were pulled
backward into a bear hug by Namjoon. You let out a small squeak at the sudden movement just as
the camera went off. The other members moved in to make you and your friend more of the focal
point, Jin hanging around her shoulders. They took a few more pictures with you now in his arms
to make sure there would be one you were happy with. You could’ve sworn you felt something
being slipped into the back pocket of your jeans as you moved to say your goodbyes, but you didn’t
get a chance to think anything of it before you were ushered out of the room.
After you left, you made good on your promise taking your friend for food. When reaching for
your purse you also pulled out a small business card that you knew had not been there before the
meet and greet. You flipped it over to find Namjoon’s unmistakable scrawl on the back. It listed a
fancy restaurant in town, tomorrow’s date and the time 19:00. Butterflies filled your stomach.
What was this for?
