Kaz swore.

Inej shot him a look.

He glared and stopped.

"Show me. "

Inej walked to the huge map of Ketterdam on the wall.

She tapped at the intersection of East Stave and the fringe of the Barrel.

"Do you want to see the spot? He just disappeared, vanished on the spot. I warrant that there would be a tunnel or a vent but it was getting light out. "

"Not now, we can wait until morning. Did you see any other Dime Lions?"

"No, only Doughty and he was carrying a black case. "
"Jan Van Eck?"

"Still in his cell. "
"Good. "

"How's Jesper and Wylan?"

"I think they're doing fine. Time for a visit though. " Inej glanced at Kaz waiting.

Kaz sighed and stood, grabbing his cane.

He offered his arm to Inej.

Inej glanced at him warily.

What was Kaz up to?
Kaz saw her looking :"Do me the honor?"
Inej rolled her eyes but took Kaz's arm.

"Is your leg troubling you?"
Kaz winced and shook his head. Inej glared at him.

The morning's air was crisp and cold, salty as the sea. Inej and Kaz were ushered into the warm hall of the Van Eck mansion.

Jesper and Wylan were seated in the living room, Wylan on his piano and Jesper on the divan, looking through a vast amount of paper and graphs.

"What if we bought the Hellgate stocks?"

Wylan shook his head, "Jes, Hellgate has no good morals. "

"Since when did I care about morals?"

"Since we've gotten back. "
"Pretty sure I'm a criminal, Wy. "
Wylan rolled his eyes and plucked out another jaunty tune on the piano.

"But Hellgate's stock is dropping and if Kaz seizes old Rollin's chances, the prices would go up. It's money, Wy!"

Kaz cleared his throat.

"Kaz!"

Jesper bounded up from the divan and crushed Inej in a bear hug.

"Good to see you, Jes. " Kaz nodded to Wylan.

"How are you doing?" Inej asked, perching on top of the window.

Kaz helped himself to the stack of waffles but on second though had no appetite and handed the plate to Inej.

Wylan groaned, "Don't get me started on this guy, he has no sense to stock. ""Hey! I've been taking your boring math classes, if anything, its your fault!"

Jesper winked and turned his attention to Inej.

Inej rolled her eyes and offered him some waffle.

"What business, Kaz?", Wylan asked.

"Oooh, look at the little merchling. "

"Shut it Jes. " Wylan, for the first time this morning, looked serious.

All eyes were on Kaz.

"Nothing to be worried about. Wylan, does Jan Van Eck have any maps of the old city?"

"I think so, why?"
"Where are they?"
"In the office. "
Kaz shot Inej a look.

"Can we borrow them, Wylan?", Inej asked innocently.
"Sure, but you have to look for them, his files are pretty crypt. "
Inej shot Kaz a look.

Kaz sighed and limped up the staircase to the office.
