Natsu and Lucy sat on a low hill, gazing at the stars. "Y'know, I don't believe in soulmates," Natsu said out of the blue. Lucy looked over at him, tilting her head in confusion. "Why?" "I guess it's cause it's not fair?" He ended with a question. "No, it really isn't fair. Why should you let fate dictate your entire life! I think that it's wrong to let it determine who you'll love! If you truly love someone, but they're not your soulmate, it's not fair because you really do love them!" Natsu was heaving by the end of this, prompting Lucy to giggle. "Yeah," Lucy concluded, "I get that, like why should fate determine your life? Everyone should be free to pick who they love."

"Love should be free! Screw fate!" Lucy shouted at the sky. Natsu grinned. "Yeah! Fate is so dumb!" Lucy laughed. "Fate can screw themselves on a fork!" Natsu looked at her before bursting out laughing. He loved her so much that his heart ached. As the night got darker, the two teens yelled at the sky until their throats hurt and laughed until they cried.

Wise men say

Only fools rush in

But I can't help falling in love with you.

Shall I stay?

Would it be a sin

If I can't help falling in love with you?

. . . . . . .

Lucy cuddled next to Natsu. They were watching "How to Train Your Dragon 2," again. She hadn't been paying attention because she could probably quote the entire movie in her sleep. So she let her thoughts take over. She wondered if what Natsu said was true. "Luce?" Natsu said, shaking Lucy out of her thoughts.

"Did you mean what you said?" Lucy blurted out without thinking. Realizing what she said, she blushed, burying her face into Natsu's shoulder. "What?" Natsu questioned, with obvious amusement on his face. He was used to her antics, but he still found it adorable when she spaced out. "The other day. What you said about not believing in soulmates, did you mean it?" Natsu took a deep breath, "Yeah, I think it's dumb and unfair."

"I know that you think that knowledge, but what about when you actually meet yours?" Even if it hurt, Lucy had to know. She needed to know. "What if I didn't have a soulmate?" Lucy whipped her head to look at him. "Don't be stupid. Of course, you have one. Everyone does." Internally, she laughed. She knew all too well that it was entirely possible not to have a soul mate. "Well, I don't even want to meet mine!" Natsu shouted, pouting. It makes Lucy want to smile, but she doesn't.

She knows that Natsu will laugh at what he said years later after he meets his soulmate. If he even remembers her and his time with her. Fear struck her, "Natsu, do you think that you're gonna remember me?" Her voice was quiet, small, pathetic. This made Natsu jolt, "What? Where'd that even come from? How could I forget you? You're one of the few things I got right in my life." Lucy looked away. "Yeah, but what about after you meet your soulmate?" Natsu stiffened.

He grabbed her chin gently and forced her to look at him. "Hey," he started gently, "I'm never going to forget you. I could never forget you. This-what we have-is going to last as long as it can, and it's going to stay with me even after that." But all things end, break, deteriorate. All things cease to exist. Natsu continued, "And, I will never stop. I will never stop loving you, being with you, needing you. Unless you want me to stop, I will always be there for you." Lucy grinned and kissed him.
