INEZ MORAIS' LIFE HAD ALWAYS BEEN UNPREDICTABLE, but the two constants she always had were her makeshift laboratory, and her sister. With their parents out of the picture, they had only each other to lean on and made do pretty well with the limited things and opportunities they had, especially in their poor Brazilian neighborhood.
Martina worked in a bottling factory while Inez was a freelance biologist, hoping to find cures to illnesses that affected people all across the planet yet were continually put on the back burner. Obviously Inez wouldn't be able to cure things like Alzheimer's with just the things in the storage closet she called a lab, but she was a big believer in making small steps every day could lead to making big changes, so she trekked on.
Inez's relationship history was...not the best, but after meeting one of her sister's coworkers who immediately showed interest in the work she's been conducting for the past decade, for once in her life she thought that maybe she would finally have a chance.
But then he suddenly falls off the grid and four years later, Inez gets a phone call and a surprise visitor on her doorstep telling her it's time to track him down.
NOTES:
• BRUCE IS SO UNDERRATED ITS C R I M I N A L. CRIMINAL!!! anyway. if you never watched the hulk movie that's alright bc i didn't either and we're just making it up as we go. you can either include the incredible hulk movie and either 1) find it somewhere to watch ig but also 2) refer to the fandom wiki, OR you can not write abt the incredible hulk and just start in avengers that's totally fine too
• (pre-avengers/context) so after bruce gets infected w the gamma radiation & turns into the hulk, he goes on the run from the army and flees the country, lives in brazil where he works in a soft drink bottling factory and works w inez's sister martina. inez is a freelance biologist and she drops off and picks up martina from work every day so she sees bruce who lowkey has a crush on her bc bruce is so 🧸💚🧸💚 and martina teases him abt it naturally
• one day at work bruce tells off their gross coworker who was hitting on martina and after she thanks bruce, he gets onto the subject of her sister and asks what she does, martina says she does biology stuff and bruce is like hmm really??? and when inez comes to pick martina up bruce asks if they could discuss her work and she's like yeah sure and invites him over to their house that day
• inez shows bruce her "lab" which is just the back room of their home w a bunch of random stuff among her cell samples that she experiments on. it's not much, but bruce is impressed and discusses his situation w the gamma radiation and hulking out. she's obviously never heard of that before but is very interested and willing to help. bruce tells her abt being in correspondence w a scientist in new york who goes by "mr blue" and bruce shows her their messages and what blue has recommended thus far
• inez tells bruce that anger management is key since that's his trigger and teaches him meditation and jiu jitsu (when she kicks his ass in the beginning and pins him to the ground and their faces are like 🤏🏼 that far apart and you feel the tension. i love this trope) and eventually when bruce gets good enough HE pins her to the ground. we love to see the development
• inez def asks bruce out for dinner bc she's ALWAYS the one to make the first moves and he says yes bc he's 🧸💚🧸💚 they have a great time and inez would so kiss him first bc she knows what she wants and she's gonna get it
• inez and bruce get closer and start basically dating when the army finds bruce in brazil so he has to flee AGAIN but doesn't have enough time to explain to inez so he just hurriedly kisses her goodbye and that's the last she hears from him bc bruce doesn't want them to connect her and martina to him, but he thinks abt her all the time 💔
• so during avengers, fury calls inez whos like "how tf did you get this number??" and he's like "we have reason to think that you are an associate of dr bruce banner...you know his whereabouts..." blah blah blah and when she says she doesn't, fury's like "ok well we're sending over an agent who does and who you'll be assisting in helping us recruit banner." lo and behold, a few seconds later someone knows on the door and peekaboo it's natasha! and they go to kolkata, india
• inez is suspicious abt nat the whole time, nat has inez mostly talk to bruce and bruce tries to apologize but inez doesn't want to hear it but when bruce agrees to go w nat, inez says she's going too and nat kinda gives her a 🤨 look but inez says something along the lines of "well do you want him to have an 'incident' in the middle of shield headquarters? yeah, didn't think so." (spoiler alert...he has one anyway oops)
• inez helps bruce track down tesseract in the ship and helps him find out info on it. when tony pokes bruce to see if he transforms, she gets defensive and tony makes some comment abt inez going mrs hulk on him which she scowls at and prob gives him a nice flip of the bird bc friendship ❤️ but she eventually becomes friends w tony. she also doesn't like fury at first either bc of the whole put-banner-in-a-cell thing but grows to like him too
• when bruce hulks out in the air carrier thingy, inez calms him down (after failing to do so the 1st time and getting flung against a wall 🥰 which bruce feels like utter SHIT abt). avengers things happen, after battle of ny inez finds bruce and she kisses him, prob calls him an idiot bc have you met bruce?? and then she eats shawarma w them <3
• you can au between avengers and ultron or do another time skip and just explain what happened between then and now (e.g. prob moved in together). you can kinda do what you want except know that inez helps them study the scepter after they get it, goes to the party where nat tells bruce to buck up and ask inez to dance or something bc although they're basically dating, bruce is still a weenie. then ultron comes and ruins the mood. also inez and bruce plan to run away together after ultron's defeated (like he and nat did originally). inez is on the same helicarrier that fury and maria and co are on and tries to help from the inside but she can only do so much since she's just human
• hulk flies away in the quinjet and inez thinks he's dead bc they can't track it, but fury (brotp 😩) tells her he's most likely alive and gives her a sympathetic pat on the shoulder, maybe even a hug if he's feeling fancy
• tbh idrk what else to have happen except inez NOT be in ragnorak, but bruce feels horrible for how he left things,,, but he's also scared of how much inez is gonna beat his ass when he gets back so he still stays in space, still gets sent down to earth and warns everyone etc, but the first thing he does after that is find inez (who works at shield now) and apologizes as she's punching him in like the shoulder or chest or something like "inez—ow!—i'm so—hey!—sorry for—inez!"
• the only other thing i had planned for this was inez disappears in the snap so after that happens and bruce can't find her, he calls martina (her sister) who IS still alive and either she comes to the states or he goes back to brazil and they mourn her together 💔 and ofc lovey dovey reunion where inez calls bruce an idiot once again for almost getting his arm blown off, but he helped save the world so she forgives him 💘
