ADAM WATSON MUCH PREFERRED TO OPERATE BEHIND THE SCENES. During his time at SHIELD, he was never one of the top agents always thrown into action; instead, he was the person who trained said agents to remain in peak physical shape, and was therefore a crucial building block of the organization. Following the fall of SHIELD, there was a brief period of time during which Adam was unsure of what his future held. If SHIELD was no longer, what purpose would he serve? After all, there was no way he'd be stuck behind a desk in a cramped cubical for the rest of his life.

That's where his sister, Clara, and the New Avengers Initiative came in.

Having already been a member of the-quite flashy, in Adam's opinion-Avengers herself, Clara immediately suggested Adam for the job of training the new Avengers recruits. Adam obviously accepted, in need of a job now that his former employer was no longer, and felt right at home in the new modernized facilities.

He expected things to return to business as usual, but he never expected to meet a man by the name of Sam Wilson, who threw a rather large wrench in his plans.

NOTES:

• so i'm thinking this will start during the end scene of age of ultron where they're all in the new compound, and clara's showing adam around. i wouldn't say adam's like anti-avengers or anything (obviously bc his sister literally is one lol) but i think bc he's used to being surrounded by and training shield agents who are specifically told to be as inconspicuous as possible while using minimal equipment, he's a little iffy abt training avengers who have all kinds of powers and brightly covered suits. basically, the element of surprise (which adam focused a lot on at shield) is completely gone and forces adam to rethink his training protocol and he isn't so readily convinced, but follows his sister around the compound that he agrees to work in anyway

• i foresee a LOT of sarcastic comments coming from sam towards adam, especially during their first few encounters. i feel like sam would definitely ask adam something like "so...what's your gimmick? were you a teen wolf too?" and adam would just nonchalantly shrug and say "...something like that."

• speaking of! if you want to keep adam's mutant powers similar to clara's, i'm thinking that he'd be able to shift into a coyote. they're apart of the same species family as wolves, and i think a coyote goes well with adam since coyotes are relatively small, but are also fast, agile, and attack to kill. matthew daddario is tall and thin, so i feel like adam would often be underestimated (sam would probably make fun of his "noodle arms" or something) but he has super quick reflexes which he uses to his advantage (wink wink 1v1 sessions with sam wink wink) however, i think adam would keep his shapeshifting powers under wraps despite how many times sam badgers him abt it
