When you made it back to your friends, it was nearly the end of lunch. Makomo jumped up to hug you

"Oh (y/n), my poor baby!! You didn't tell me you were constipated!" Makomo cries

You yelp, blushing "EXCUSE ME?!"

"I have medicine for your gut if you want it!" Makomo says, pulling away from the hug to smile at you "It works really well."

"I am NOT constipated, you jerks." You grumble. From the corner of your eye, you can see Sabito laughing into his hand

"Are you sure?" Makomo stands back, reaching into her backpack "Why did you even take so long in the bathroom then?" She lowers her voice "Do you need a pad?"

"NOo!" you shake your head rapidly "I just ran into someone while I was there, that's all..."

They both stop and look at each other, then at you

"Let's get going before we're late." You say stiffly, changing the subject while you pick up your things.

Throughout the rest of the day, you were a mess. You couldn't focus on anything the teachers were saying, and you weren't even tempted to mess around with Sabito in art class. That in itself was a clear indicator that something was wrong.

To most, your shyness was seen as normal, but when you got to History class, Mr. Rengoku immediately came to check on you when he saw you with your head down on the table.

"(Y/n)? What's going on? You've barely said a single thing today!" Mr. Rengoku asks, placing a hand on your back gently

You look up from the table with a small frown "I guess I'm just not having a good day, is all..."

"Hmm...."  he looks at the door

"would you like to step outside for a moment? I'll be sure to let you back into class within a few minutes."

You look up at him, your face lighting up "Really? Are you sure that's alright?"

Mr. Rengoku nods

"of course (y/n), just don't go and cause any trouble."

Sitting outside of Mr. Rengoku's room, you covered yourself completely with your black sweater, making sure to put the hoodie on as well.

For some reason, ever since you saw that boy during lunch, your whole mood changed. It was nearly instant, too.

You sigh

It's not like I'm a stranger to having a hard time talking to people...still, I really wanted to be friends with that guy but now I've screwed it up. He probably thinks I'm a whore, just like everybody's been saying all day

You hug your knees close to your body, sniffling

Even Sabito thinks I'm doing it on purpose, even Makomo, but I'm not. I don't even want guys to look at me like that. I just want things to go back to the way they were when I was happy...when WE were happy.

With your phone in hand, you start scrolling through your playlists.

you tap on the one titled 'cry playlist' and put one of your earbuds in, preparing yourself for the waterworks

Under the side of your hoodie, you saw someone sit down on the floor next to you, but you were too scared at first to lift it up and see who it was

"Rough first day, right?"

You look up and lock eyes with those familiar red orbs

"Sorry I left you hanging during lunch, (Y/n)."

oh my god...why is he so...

your heart flutters in your chest. The two of you are sitting shoulder to shoulder, and his face seems so close that the two of you might bump heads

"It's...okay..." You whisper, starstruck

In the sun's light, he truly seemed unlike any other student you've met before. His aura was so warm and inviting, it drew you in like a strong gravitational pull.

he smiles softly at you "I'm out here because I'm on punishment for stealing a textbook from literacy class...I guess we aren't supposed to take them with us"

You take your hood off slowly so you can get a better look at him, smiling back "On punishment already!? Shame on you, new kid" You joke

"ahhh I know" he takes his eyes off you to lay his head back against the wall "I don't really know anything about how this school works. I'm willing to learn, though."

You tilt your head at him, looking at him sideways with your arms resting atop your knees

Wow...what do I even say? I've never seen anyone like him before

"I hope you don't mind that I say this..." Tanjirou added, "but for someone who talks a lot, you never say what's really on your mind."

You raise your eyebrows in shock

"It's almost like you're protecting the feelings of others. Why?" He asks

"Wow, so you're just gonna hit me with the in-depth analysis like that?" You reply anxiously, pulling your hood over your head again

He notices this "Sorry, I didn't mean to sound condescending."

"It's just, I can tell you think a lot more than most people here."

You look down at your feet on the floor in front of you

"Well, to answer your question, I don't really know. Guess you'll just have to hang out with me more and find out" You add slyly

"Mmh...Alright. Why not." He mumbles, rising to stand "I've got to go back now. Maybe I'll see you again later"

"Maybe." You repeat, watching him trod slowly away

That kid's so weird...it's almost like he can detect the intent behind every word I say. There's no deceiving someone like that.

Afterschool was fairly uneventful. On your way out of school, you and your friends witnessed some guy with blue hair and an unbuttoned shirt get caught spray painting the side of the school building, but he was dealt with so quickly it was barely even a show. Aside from that, nothing interesting happened

The three of you went to the abandoned buildings to go skate, as planned, and you did.

You all hung out there for hours until night fell, and even after having so much fun, you still felt so empty inside.

Doing things like old times just wasn't the same anymore--it wasn't fulfilling. You've grown and your heart yearns for something different.

As you were about to leave, Sabito stopped you

"Wait! Before you go," he says "thanks for putting up with all the bullshit today."

"You put on a pretty brave face for us, and I appreciate it."

You relax your face; you didn't realize it was even tense in the first place

"What're friends for, right?"

You chuckle softly before skating off into the night.
