You stormed out of class just as soon as you'd entered. The burning rage you felt seemed to make time go by much faster than normal

Sadly you didn't end up getting a hold of Aoi or Genya. But it didn't matter. All you have to do is zero in on the task at hand.

As you now leave school, you carry your skateboard with you and your other belongings and stride with purpose toward your route home.

Just before leaving, Tanjiro and Nezuko waved goodbye to you. It pisses you off that they're still trying to be kind to you, even after how you've treated them.

I'm so close to uncovering the truth...

I have no time to waste mending things between them. I feel no regret.

Was what you thought. But when you made it home, you were exhausted already. Too tired to even open your math textbook and read the homework plan.

All the letters and numbers melted into eachother as your mind fell into a hot pit of mental burnout, a place you were sadly familiar with.

So instead, your conscience began to wander

It was around this time that I saw Aoi. Perhaps I'm just grasping at straws here, but..

You rise slowly from your bed to look over the windowsill again. All is still in the woods just beyond your property. Birds chirped and flew by in the canopies, and the shadows on the ground grew eerily dark as the sun made its way to the horizon

You watch the road with hawk-like concentration. Nothing seems to move.

Are they coming?

Oh, hang on...that's them!

Around the same time you'd seen your classmates the day before, they were walking across the road with bags full of stuff.

Aoi pauses to look around, and you duck behind the safety of your dresser

"SHIT!" You clasp your hands over your mouth quickly

After a moment passed, you peeked over again and they were gone

I'm gonna go...Follow them. I have to. I don't want to be right but if my suspicions are correct then they will lead me right to her

You stand up quickly and toss a hoodie over your shoulders, tiptoeing quietly down the stairs and then ducking out of the doorway before anyone could notice

I just want to know why this is happening...if I can find anything at all

You jumped out of your thoughts suddenly when your phone buzzed and you raised it to check the notification

"Sabito🙄: Hey"

You stared blankly until a warm blush covered your face. You couldn't help but panic in fear that you would say something stupid in reply

What does he want?!

Another notification appears, and he says

"Sabito🙄: can we talk?"

....

NOPE

You shove your phone back into your pocket quickly and rush to follow the two, flipping your hood over your head to remain inconspicuous

You figure that whatever Sabito wants to say would be best left for future Y/N to deal with

The gravel path crunched beneath the feet of Genya and Aoi as they trod along with you trailing a short distance behind, unbeknownst to them

You took extra care to duck behind the foliage, and now you're crouching behind a bush straining to hear them

The very small part of you inside that should have been afraid of what might happen if they saw you was completely outweighed by your intense curiosity. And for now, it's probably for the best. There's no turning back now

"Thank god, the end of the week is finally here." Genya grumbles

"Mhm..." Aoi sighs

"Also—why are you moving so slow??"

"I just want to lay down and rest" Aoi stated

"We'll get to rest sooner if you hurry up" he replied with a grunt

Their footsteps slowed to a stop. When you peeked over the shrubs at them, you saw them stop in front of a house

"Ass..." you heard Aoi murmur, referring to Genya of course

Upon squinting, you recognize this neighborhood; it's the one you saw through the trees while you were out with Ume and Gyutaruu!

But why would they come here of all places?

"Jeez...I'm just gonna pretend I didn't hear that." He said "I don't know how much longer she wants us to keep up this act, but I can't wait to be done"

'She'?! You perk up at the mention of another person involved

"Well it can't be long now," Aoi responded with a yawn "remember that girl—Mako's friend, who keeps sulking all the time?"

"Do I ever..." he groaned "the one that hangs around Sabito?"

"Yeah, her," Aoi nodded, swinging open the door with her foot "she asked me about you today. I think she saw us.."

"What?! What the hell?? That's really serious—" Genya's voice trailed off as they entered the building, closing the door swiftly behind them

Mako...mo

You watched them leave, dumbfounded

Sabito—and, me.

They said 'she' wanted something. Who is that? Is that my friend?

And just like that, as if a switch was flipped in your head, everything began to piece itself together almost perfectly. You'd likely just figured out exactly what was going on.

You hardly noticed that you started running back the path you'd come. It just felt like one moment you were thinking, and the next your legs were flinging out beneath you and you fled the scene in horror.

Genya and Aoi didn't hurt Makomo. They were accomplices. All three of them planned this, and while everybody thought you were the stupid one...you'd figured it out to a T.

But what now? What does one do now, knowing your friend was not captured but rather, disappeared on their own volition? It hurts a little more than the latter.

When you made it home, you plopped down onto the living room couch in exhaustion.

What to do now?

I guess that now my only choice is to come up with a plan. But I can't do this alone....I have to talk to the one person who's trusted my words from the very beginning
