[Katniss's pov]

Rain is coming down as I stare out the train compartment window.

Peeta's voice was hoarse when he walked away, saying he needed to go to the men's room. That was a lie, I know. I almost break down. He does love me, enough to lie to spare me pain. It isn't working.

But what I did was a lie as well, even though it was to survive the Hunger Games and put on a show for the Capitol's sponsors.

Turns out the facade was far too realistic. Impressive for someone who's never done a day's acting in her life. Maybe I'm just  a natural liar.

But maybe Peeta was just blind, seeing what he was desperate to see. I realize, he doesn't know me all too well. We've had maybe three proper conversations, and at least one was for entertainment purposes. Is there still someone who does know me, cares about me?

And then I realize, Gale. Gale, who's always been there. Who's always accepted and loved me.

What will he think when he sees me again - what will he do - what will he say - what will happen?

How could I have been so thoughtless...
