The Longest Road [Spencer Reid x Reader]

Chapter 23

Arriving at the jet everyone gets seated and Hotch hands out the case files. Penelope is on video call and begins to present the case

"One month ago near Denver Colorado a woman named Sylvia Gage age 28 went missing, at the crime scene they found a wedding ring, but Sylvia was not married. One week ago a child named Jenna Waters aged 8 went missing, near the park bench she was last seen on a wedding ring was found. Finally what brings us here, yesterday 9 year old Milo Williams went missing from his street, and again a wedding ring found at the scene" Penelope sighed

"The wedding ring is a symbol of love and devotion through time, it is made to symbolize commitment to one another to care and look after each other forever" Spencer adds, you smile and think about what Penelope told you at the party.

Did he really want to propose?

"Okay so it makes sense the unsub would leave a wedding ring with Sylvia, maybe he has been stalking her and is obsessed with the idea of her, but with the children?" You add to the conversation as you flip through the case file

"Marriage and children are often thought to go together" JJ adds

"Maybe the unsub is building the perfect family" Rossi states

"This cannot be the unsubs first time. Garcia check for missing people found dead and see if there was a wedding ring found on the victim or in the vicinity" Emily says to Garcia.

The jet lands and you head directly to the police station to talk to Jenna's parents, when you enter you see them sitting in a room over to your left, holding each other crying for their missing daughter. These cases break your heart to know children are out there missing.

"Mr and Mrs Waters i'm Dr. y/n y/l/n, can we take a few minutes to talk about Jenna"

Both parents nod and you sit down across from them

"I want to get to know a bit about Jenna, tell me about her" you smile

"Oh Jenna she is amazing, so careful, always does well in school, she is kind to our neighbours, just a little girl who loves life"  the mother cries

"You said she is careful, would she ever leave with someone she didn't know?"

"No no she wouldn't, she knew about strangers and not to go with them, she is such a careful little girl, Agent y/n please find her, please" the father begs to you as the mother reaches out her hand and touches yours.

"Is there anyone in Jennas life that stands out, anyone you were cautious to have her around" you question

"Nobody, we were careful with her, we just want her home"

"We are doing everything we can to find your little girl" you reassure the parents, but inside you knew that this case would be difficult, you just hoped you could find these children.

Back in the conference room everyone is sitting down discussing their conversations with the families

"It sounds like Sylvia, Jenna, and Milo were all careful people. Sylvia was a teacher and her life consisted of mostly work and home, she did not go out too much, and both Jenna and Milo were cautious not to be around strangers" Emily summarizes everyone's findings

"That points to the fact that the victims must have known the unsub" Spencer says looking at the evidence board.

"Jenna and Milo both went to the same school but Sylvia worked at the middle school" Rossi says

"Maybe it is someone connected to the school system" you suggest

"Talk to us baby girl" Derek says as he answers his phone and puts Penelope on speaker

"And just like that, there have been 3 children found with wedding rings near the scene, and 4 missing women again with rings at the scene, this has all been over the course of 10 years"

You lean back and run your hands through your hair

"Sick" you say, sounding disgusted at the thought of the unsub.

"y/n and Reid i want you to go to Jenna and Milos school, talk to every teacher you can about the children, get to know the staff, look for someone who seems out of place" Hotch instructs, you and Spencer get up and walk out of the police station towards the vans. After driving for a few minutes in silence Spencer turns to you

"y/n my love are you okay?" he reaches out a hand and places it on your leg that is bouncing with anxiety

"Yeah, just thinking, you know i hate these cases, the ones with kids. We see this stuff all the time, but kids are so defenceless, it just hurts my heart" you calm down a bit at Spencer's touch

"I know y/n, you have a big heart, which makes you an amazing agent because you stop and nothing to catch these people, and I love that about you" Spencer smiles as you pull into the school parking lot. It is full of cars because it is a school day.

Walking into the office you pull out your FBI badge, no matter how many times you do this you still feel powerful with the badge.

"Hi, I'm Dr. y/n y/l/n and this is Dr. Spencer Reid, we are with the FBI, we are looking into the cases of Jenna Waters and Milo Williams" You say to the man at the front desk 

"Oh of course I am Oliver Johnson but I can get principal Sommers for you, just give a moment"  Oliver stands up and heads to the principal's office, you and Spencer wait a moment, and Oliver walks back out

"She can see you in her office, it's just down the hall first door on your right" He points out. Walking down the hall you knock on the door

"Come in" a voice says from inside

"Hi principal Sommers, I'm Dr. y/n y/l/n and this is Dr. Spencer Reid, were here with the FBI" you say as both of you take a seat

"Yes, Oliver filled me in, you can call me Charlotte, I heard about Jenna and Milo, tragic i really hope you can find them" Charlotte appears sad when she mentions the children.

"That is our goal, how were Milo and Jenna as students? Did they get in trouble very often?" Spencer questions

"Trouble, oh no the very opposite Jenna and Milo were amazing students, so very kind. Not many kids are like them almost every morning they would pop into the office together and say hello just before they went to class, you would never meet two nicer kids. They had class together and became good friends. When Jenna went missing Milo became very sad, he would come to the office all the time crying for her. Broke my heart to see" Charlotte explained

"Any teachers that seemed to not like the children? Have you noticed anyone acting strange around them, possibly a staff member or an older student?" You questioned

"Nobody, everyone loved the kids, thought the world of them. I'm sorry i cannot think of anyone" Charlotte said as she turned and handed you Jenna and Milos school files

Spencer and you spent the rest of the day interviewing the teachers and staff at the school. All stories seemed to align, the children were well behaved and kind students.

You take out your phone to call Penelope

"Hey girly, this may take a bit but i want you to go through every person that works and Jenna and Milos school, look for criminal records, history of tragic events, maybe a loss in their life within the last 10 to 15 years."

"That is certainly a lot, but i got it darling, i'll check back with you later" Penelope hangs up

"Hi Oliver, here is a few of our cards, if anyone else thinks of anything, please give us a call" You hand him a few of yours and Spencers business cards

"Of course" he smiles and you two leave the school
