Flashback – Elle's POV
Morning came way too early for me the day after Noah dislocated his shoulder. I usually loved to sleep in on the weekends, but not today. I made myself get out of bed anyway and and got ready for the day before making the short walk over to the Flynns'. I caught Lee leaving the house as I was walking up the driveway. "Hey, Elle, it sucks you have to spend the weekend here with Noah. Have fun with that!" He said sarcastically. We both laughed as we went through our special handshake.
"Oh, I'll be fine, don't worry about me. You worry about yourself and how awesome you're gonna be at your meet this afternoon." I responded, making a face at him.
"If anything can make you get over that never ending crush you have on Noah, it will be spending a couple days alone with him. You'll realize what an ass he is then." My crush! I felt my cheeks flush. How does Lee even know about my crush? I have made sure not to ever talk about Noah around Lee, since he first started teasing me about having a crush years ago.
I scrunched my face attempting to show Lee how grossed out I was by the thought of a crush on Noah. He knows me too well, though, I'm sure he didn't buy it. "Whatever Lee! I've been over that forever. Now, just go before you're late!" I yelled at him as I push him down the driveway, towards his ride, giving him a quick hug before he jumped into the car.
When I walked into the Flynn house, June was at the kitchen counter writing in a notebook. She smiled at me and gave me a side hug before she handed me Noah's pain killers and the notebook that held a list of instructions. I felt like I was babysitting for a new family. She went through the list of all the important phone numbers and everything I would need to know to take care of Noah, as if he wasn't almost 17 years old. He wasn't up yet, but she asked if I would check on him in an hour or so and see if there was anything he needed.
June and Matthew were getting ready to head out the front door, when June pulled me in for one of her big hugs. "I feel so guilty about leaving Noah when he's hurt and for making you stay here this weekend when Lee isn't even around. Thank you so much for doing this, hun."
"Yes, we really appreciate this, Elle!" Lee's dad, Matthew, added.
I smiled at them, trying to show I was confident that everything would be fine while they were gone. "For real, June, don't worry about me. It's no problem and Noah will be fine. Plus, this means I don't have to do any of my chores at home. Not a bad deal for me!" I waved one more time at Matthew and June as they took off and I ran upstairs.
I took my bag up to the guest room I always stayed in and unpacked my things. After I ate my breakfast, it was time to wake up Noah. Surprisingly, I realized I was a little nervous about it. I had known Noah all my life, but in the past few years, the two of us rarely spent any time alone. Once he got to high school, he had become this larger than life bad boy who all the girls in school wanted to be with. I took a deep breath, knocked on his door, and walked in.
Flashback Noah's POV
I wake up to knocking on my door and see Elle sticking her head into my room. I wondered what the hell she was doing until I felt a stab of pain in my shoulder and remembered the game last night. After we got home from the hospital, Mom went on and on about how horrible she felt about having to be gone today. She told me that Elle would stay here to help me out. I tried to tell her that I could take care of myself and certainly didn't need Elle here, but she insisted. Elle stayed in my doorway and called out, "Hey, Noah, your mom asked me to wake you up and check on you. How are you feeling?"
"Sore." I responded shortly. I was still groggy from waking up just now and wasn't in the mood to chat. I know how much Elle can talk when you get her started.
