Natasha's POV

It had been a few hours since the incident with Mia, y/n had just been sitting in her cell throwing pebbles around. The cell door was left open but she didn't leave, she just sat there.

"I think you should tell her about where Mia is." Fury said.

"Why me?" I asked.

"Because you're the only one she'll talk to." Fury said ad walked away. I waited a minute before walking into the room that held y/n's cell.

"Hey," I said. She didn't look at me. "Your sister's being put in a off-shore facility. Apparently, she's caused a lot more trouble than what happened today." she had stopped tossing the pebbles around and looked at me. There was no emotion on her face or in her eyes. She was like a blank canvas.

"When you were little, if you fell, they would ask you where it hurt, you would point to your knees, your arm or an elbow, and they would make it better. But you noticed, as you got older, if you fall they do not ask you where it hurts. You sit silently in your room, waiting for someone to ask you, where it hurts, pointing to your head and your heart. Because that is where the pain, hurts the most, but nobody makes it better." she said.

"Where'd you hear that?" I asked.

"I read it somewhere. I never learned the authors name," she said. "But I still like it. It describes life as it is and now as a fantasy. See when you get older people tend to forget that you still feel pain."

"Well, that's not always true. You just have to find the right people." I assured her.

"And who are the right people? How can you tell the difference between the ones who truly care and the ones who just pretend?" she asked.

"I'm sorry, I don't have all the answers." I told her.

"I know, and I don't expect you to." she said. There was a peaceful silence for a moment but it was disrupted when y/n spoke. "I have a question, for you."

"What's that?" I asked.

"What was going through your mind when you had me pinned down, when you caught up to me?" she asked. I stood silent remembering what I had said. I don't know what was going through my mind, I guess I just got caught in the moment and it just slipped out. I'm a known flirt but when I saw how flustered I had made her, something in me activated. Of course, I would never admit that though.

"You obviously don't know much about me." was my answer.

"Actually, I know quite a lot about you." she said.

"Oh, yeah? Like what?" I asked curious as to what she really knows.

"I know...that you were raised to be the Black Widow. But not the hero version. I know that you're a total flirt but mostly just with guys. I know that two of your best friends are secretly dating but have a horrible way of keeping it secret." she said and we laughed at the last part but when we stopped her face went serious. "I also know, that you recently lost your best friend."

Her voice was soft and sincere when she said it. Which showed that she knew it was a sensitive topic. "Yeah." was all I got out.

"Sorry. I've never had any friends to lose so I can't say I know how it feels. But I know it must hurt." she said.

"It was supposed to be me." I said softly as I felt tears beginning to form but I held them back.

"Don't fight yourself on that," Y/n said and started to walk towards me. "Even if you could go back and change what happened, you shouldn't. I'm gonna be cliché here but some things happen for a reason."

I didn't know how to respond so I just smiled.

"I feel like I should say something funny to lighten the mood but I got nothing." y/n said. We laughed at that.

Y/n POV

The laughter was short but it left a smile on both of our faces. There was a slight second where I got lost in her big olive green eyes. I didn't want to look away but my eyes betrayed me and they traveled to her lips. Full and pillowy. I had the urge to grab her and kiss her, but I couldn't do that.

"Everything good in here?" Fury asked. I never even saw him enter the room. Apparently, neither did Natasha because we both jumped at the sound of his voice.

"Yeah, yeah." Natasha and I said and awkwardly moved away from each other.

"Okay...anyway, I need to talk to you two." he said and walked away indicating for us to follow him.
