"i am your soulmate"
he was unmoving, his mouth agape as he stared into space. the guy couldn't be jeongwoo's soulmate, he must be hallucinating and hearing things.
is this the purpose of the strings? soulmate? who would come up with such a story? it's childish as hell. he couldn't believe it, and he still doesn't. this may be the last thing he ever wants to do with his life.
on the other hand, the man chewed on his lips as he waited for jeongwoo's answer. with his mouth still open, he isn't moving.
"well?" his tone was hesitant, but it was enough to jolt jeongwoo out of his reverie.
jeongwoo's glare returned, this time directed at haruto. he sighed, knowing that the latter isn't buying it. he knows the string is childish, but he can't go against the universe, everything was planned from the moment they were born.
"what would happen if I cut the string?" jeongwoo asked, recalling the man's warning not to cut it.
"you'll forget everything, and we'll both lose the connection we felt. for a month, we will be in pain" said the man
the man was baffled by jeongwoo's happy expression after he had explicitly stated that he would be in pain.
but jeongwoo is stubborn enough to want to cut the thread, he was relieved to know that he would forget about him and their connection. despite the fact that he will be in pain for the next month
"you should not cut the string park." he said it through clenched teeth, obviously dissatisfied with jeongwoo's thoughts.
jeongwoo's eyes widened when he heard the man say "park." he is familiar with jeongwoo.
he frowned and started to look down, unable to meet the man's eyes.
"I'm in love with someone else, and not even a string can stop my feelings." jeongwoo told a lie. he had not shown any interest in anyone in the previous years. he was too preoccupied with his studies, and once he found work, he drowned himself working.haruto, on the other hand, had his eyes closed. he felt something heavy and painful in his chest. it wasn't he that was telling him what to feel, it was the universe. it was thrust upon him and he had no control over it.
"i'd rather kill than love someone like you, you're not worth it!" jeongwoo told him, hate evident from his tone.
if having the man in front of him as his soulmate, he'd rather die than tie the knot with him.
"can you keep your mouth shut? I'd prefer to kill you as well!" the man snapped, but he didn't mean what he said.
haruto can't believe he once had affection for jeongwoo and even admired his beauty. he was devilishly handsome, but seeing him like this made him hate the other.
ahy can't he deal with the fact that they're soulmates? he's not all bad, and he's also attractive, if they met under different circumstances, jeongwoo would undoubtedly like him. jeongwoo had the same thought, if they hadn't met here, he would definitely like the guy. heck, his eyes were beautiful, and he is well aware of the man's attractiveness. his deep voice was appealing as well.
just then, a broken whisper interrupted their thoughts.
"j- jeongwoo.."
hearing junghwan's voice brought him back to reality, and guilt washed over him. they're still down in the basement, with junghwan bloodied in his arms, a boy sleeping in his hold, and the girl crying for help. the only option he sees is to ask the man for help and then let them go. they're soulmates right?
and haruto didn't like the way jeongwoo looked at him, his eyes were begging for him to let them go. how did this happen? he was just sitting in the room, staring at the monitor.
he was even intimidated by jeongwoo's look, his eyes were cold as he walked with authority into the basement. he kept a close eye on jeongwoo's every move, from the gun falling from his grip to his search for the boy. he was astounded by jeongwoo's demeanor and the amazed with fact that the officer was his soulmate.
as he came into the room he saw junghwan was being attacked by a man who was one of his uncle's men. unfortunately for him, the man was so large and skilled that he was no match for him. before the man could even kill junghwan, he stopped and said he'd take care of it.
who'd have guessed it would come to this? haruto wants out, he wants to return to japan and forget about the responsibilities that his father has given to him. even though he hated jeongwoo a while ago, he can't deny that he wanted to help him.
"please let us go, i will forget everything that happened here just.. just please let us go." jeongwoo pleaded, his eyes filled with hope.
when the man opened his mouth to say something, a voice came out of nowhere, followed by heavy footsteps.
"now son, why are you here, haruto? that was not very obedient of you to leave when i was away." the man clicked his tongue, not amused by haruto's behavior down here without him saying anything to him.
jeongwoo was terrified because he knew the man would not hesitate to kill them. this is in stark contrast to the man named haruto who stands frozen in front of them.
"off you go son, i will take it from here." haruto was scared out of his wits, his uncle just told him a familiar line.
haruto was terrified, and his uncle had just told him a familiar line. the basement was filled with thick air, that he gulped nervously. the officer is seated between them, he's standing in front of him, and his uncle is standing in the back. he knew he'd be in trouble after this because his uncle's eyes were piercing and dark.
haruto was concerned for the officer's safety, as his uncle, unlike him, would not hesitate to pull the trigger. he didn't want to leave the old man here because he knows how mean he can be. his uncle didn't like the expression on his face, which showed concern for the officer as he looked down at him.
he snapped his finger, "haruto, leave. A car is waiting for you outside" and pointed at the basement's hidden exit
he then signaled one of his men to take haruto away, and use force if he won't budge.
"b- but uncle" haruto stuttered, completely nervous while looking at jeongwoo. he wanted to help him
but his uncle was angry, looking at him with eyes now cold. Far from the man who spoke calmly to him
"haruto." his voice was tight, his eyes telling haruto to shut his mouth and just obey him.
haruto then surrenders and walked out of the basement with one of his uncle's men. not looking back and afraid he might go against his uncle when he sees jeongwoo, it would only cause both of them trouble.
and jeongwoo can hear his heart shattering into pieces, the man he thought would save him just left and didn't even spare him a glance.
what is he even thinking, asking the man who just stabbed him for help? he must be crazy
