When I woke up the next morning, a familiar scent filled my senses and my eyes shot open, looking around the room before my eyes fell onto Alpha Lupus seemingly fast asleep on the armchair. I blinked heavily, trying to make sense of last night's events but decided I had to get out of here quickly, in case I'd snuck in here during the early hours of the morning. My inner wolf lost control when I drank, so it was quite plausible that the Alpha didn't even know I was here. I crept back downstairs into the kitchen and squinted under the bright morning light. Jet was hunched over at the kitchen island and I remembered vaguely that I had flipped him over last night

"I'm sorry for last night, Jet. Forgive me?" I gave him a small smile when his eyes met mine and the blonde-haired gardener sighed, rolling his eyes

"How can I stay mad at you, princess?" He smirked and I hid my disgust at the nickname in fear of ruining the truce. My stomach ached pitifully and I ignored it, heading into my room and changing into my uniform as I was still in last night's dress. I hastily shoved the garment into the hamper and resurfaced in the kitchen, where Raula had set my plate out for me as usual

"I'm not hungry, Raula. I'll eat later." It was the same old excuse, but it worked like a charm each time

"Ace, Alpha Lupus has given me strict orders to make sure you eat something. Please come sit down." Her tone was pleading but my resolve to prove my worthiness to the Moon Goddess was stronger than that.

"I've told you before if Alpha Lupus cares so much, he should talk to me himself." Raula's eyes widened, shaking her head before moving away from the doorway. I watched her move over to the stove before a familiar scent attracted my attention and I froze. Alpha Lupus was leaning against the doorway to the dining room, eyes burning with anger and I bowed my head, staring down at my flats. I just wanted to run from the kitchen, through the foyer and straight out of the golden gates that promised me freedom but my inner wolf was too weak, submitting meekly to the Alpha in the room. He growled when he realised I hadn't made any attempt to eat food and I decided to follow the grey grout that lined each cream tile across the floor instead of involving myself in conversation. "I ate food last night at the party." I lied, biting the inside of my cheek as I felt the Alpha's gaze burning into the top of my head. He could see through my lies, I was sure of it. I hadn't even processed what was happening before a pair of trainers came into my line of sight

"Look at me, Ace." The tone was softer than I was used to over the last few days, but I held onto my last shred of strength, convinced that if I let go I'd collapse into a heap. A finger came to my chin and I flinched out of the touch, stepping back but meeting a pair of startling hazel eyes anyway.

"What can I do for you, Alpha Lupus?" I asked, forcing an innocent smile onto my lips. His eyes scanned my face for something but sighed, running a hand through his unstyled hair.

"You need to eat something, princess." Jet moved to object to the Alpha's use of the nickname but a sharp-pointed look in his direction shut down any protest he was going to make. "I'm not leaving until you sit down and eat." I questioned whether he was joking, but the look he gave me made me think twice, moving from the close proximity we were in and slumping into a chair. I stared down at the food in front of me and swallowed thickly, pushing away any bile that threatened to rise from my throat. I took a bite of hash brown, which seemed to satisfy the Alpha once it was gone and he left the room without another word. Adolfina and Louvel entered from the workers quarters a few minutes later, though the kitchen was silent

"Woah, what's with the silent treatment?" Louvel joked and Jet opened his mouth to say something but was quietened down by a fierce look from Raula who had just finished her meal. The group engaged in light conversation but I remained quiet, only managing a third of my plate before pushing it away from me. Raula gave me an encouraging smile and mouthed 'thank you' as I helped her tidy the kitchen. By the time I had finished clearing the mess from breakfast, the pack had already gone and I was hovering in the doorway to the dining room
