vi. nightmares

Annalise Russo

Sitting down at the large conference table I looked around to see all of the papers scattered around. Chris sat at the very end looking like he just stepped out of a fashion magazine. His dark hair was pushed back off his face, and he had a tight black shirt on. He had lots of jewelry covering almost every open space of skin.

Chris eventually looked up from the papers he was holding. "Okay first off, Annalise and Graham you will both be attending the event as a couple." He looked over at Graham. "Nobody can know that you're her bodyguard."

I huffed out a breath at hearing this. So Graham would have to be around me all fucking night, and we'd have to act like we absolutely didn't despise each other.

Chris looked between us and Graham gave a stern nod, while I reluctantly nodded. It most likely wouldn't be too hard to act as a couple, we would probably just have to dance a few times. At least, that's all I hoped we would have to do.

"Annalise your job will be to take photos and retrieve a watch. You will need to take a photo of Alexander Madden." Chris sorted through all the papers in front of him before retrieving a photograph of a large silver watch. I memorized certain details of it so that I would be able to recognize it later. Passing the photo to Graham our fingers brushed gently. I sucked in a shallow breath as I felt a spark travel through my hand. Graham's eyes quickly caught my own before he quickly looked away, and brought the photo in front of him.

I shook my head to focus my thoughts. "What's so important about this watch?"

"It holds a small flash drive in the underside of it. We're hoping that Mr.Madden has not discovered it."

I swiftly looked up. "And if he has?"

"Then you will most likely need to infiltrate his territory at a later date." I peered over at Graham who looked slightly uncomfortable with this. He must think that I'm not capable of handling myself.

"How will I be taking the photos?" I asked, trying to remain focused. Chris nodded his head and turned to reach into his briefcase. He then pulled out a large gold necklace with black diamonds.

"Inside this necklace there is a hidden camera in the large diamond in the front. The camera will be recording the entire night. All you will have to do is get close enough to Mr.Madden that we will be able to get a clear look at his face. After that is confirmed, you will then retrieve the watch."

He passed me a small black velvet box and inside was the necklace. I quickly took it out, unlatched it, and put it around my neck. The metal was cool against my skin and it was only slightly heavy. But not uncomfortably so.

"Okay so what does Alexander look like?" I asked while putting the necklace back in its box.

"We only have a description of what he looks like. But he is blonde and middle aged. He is tall and should be surrounded by many other business partners."

"So he looks like every other man who is going to be in there tonight?" I said sarcastically. I could see Graham smirking beside me as he continued to stare at Chris.

"Annalise you'll be able to find him." Chris responded.

"Oh I know I'll be able to. Where is the watch I'm supposed to retrieve?"

"Right. The watch is going to be in one of the private rooms. Alexander is the only one who knows which room the watch is in."

I nodded slightly frustrated that they didn't already know where the watch was being held.

"Okay Mr.Black, your job will be to stay with Annalise for the majority of the night. Make sure to listen to conversations to make sure nothing is going wrong."
