'I want you to want me, I need you to need me'

Casting my eyes over at the docks, I smiled to myself from the roof of the building I sat on as I watched the boat return to Kattegat. Shielding my eyes from the sun, I gazed over as Hvitserk clambered out of the wooden boat before greeting his two brothers, Ubbe and Sigurd. The moment the brothers shared was tender. I knew how much they had missed him, Hvitserk had been away for a while.

The middle brother then turned with a grin on his face before disappearing like he was in a rush to find something or someone. I stayed on my perch as I observed Hvitserk making his way around the nearby area of Kattegat. His mother collared him, expecting a greeting like he had given his brothers. He obliged, I noticed they shared a few words before he returned to walking around.

Bringing my knees up to my chest, I leaned my chin on my knees as I let out a small sigh. I was glad he was home, glad he was okay and safe but I wondered if things had changed.

I watched him walking before he looked up at me with a slight smirk on his face. He came in my direction before standing on the ground below the building I sat on. "Ylva," he raised his eyebrows at me.

"Hey Hvitserk," I shuffled forwards and jumped down before we both pulled each other into a hug. "I've missed you," I wasn't usually one to admit those sorts of feelings but this time it felt right.

He kissed me on the cheek, "I've missed you too."

Hearing that he had missed me too made me smile. When we both pulled back, he pulled my face close to his with his hands on my cheeks. Our noses touched, he kept them together for a few seconds before he let me go and stood up straight again. "Being away from here made me realise something."

Tilting my head, I looked up at him confused by what he meant. "What?" I asked as I furrowed my brows at him.

"It would be nice to have something to come home to," he told me. His voice sounded sad as he spoke.

I looked around the area where I stood. "You have something. You have your family, you have a home. You have much more than a lot of people."

Hvitserk smiled as he listened to my words. "Ylva, you always have a positive outlook on everything. You could be dying on the battlefield and you would only have good things to say." I chuckled at his words before he put his hands back on my face, cupping my cheeks and staring into my eyes. "What I mean is, I want someone to come home to."

His hands were still on my face as he spoke. I wondered if he was messing with me, I wondered if he knew what he did to me. I wondered if he meant me, he might just be letting me know he was lonely.

"Ylva, I want to come home to you."

I smiled at him as I looked up at him. "You have come home to me," I told him as I reached for his hands on my face, I pulled them away from my cheeks as I put my fingers through his. I tip toed up hoping to place a kiss on his lips, I realised that I was a little too short for that though.

Hvitserk let out a little laugh before he leaned close to me. I couldn't help but stare into those beautiful eyes he had, my lips curled into a small smile before he pressed his lips against mine. My eyes fluttered shut, my brain worked overtime as I responded to his kiss. I pulled him closer to me, my arms wrapping around his neck keeping him close to me.

When he pulled back, he smiled at me, that cute, sweet, adorable smile he had. "This is crazy," he said as he looked at me before his grin got wider. "I want you to be my wife. I want to live with you and come home to you, Ylva."

I was stunned by those words, I didn't know what to say in return. As I opened my mouth to speak, Hvitserk received a swift slap on the back from his brother, Ubbe. "Come brother," Ubbe said as he put an arm around Hvitserk. "Dinner has been prepared."

Hvitserk looked at me, his eyes lingering on mine. "We'll speak later, yes?"

Nodding at him, I grinned before I watched him walk about with his brother. I couldn't help but smile to myself even after he had disappeared from my view. I would definitely be speaking to him later, I had quite a few things I wanted to tell him in reply to the stuff he'd told me.
