Chapter 5-Preliminary Rounds

* Yume's POV *

"Yume...Shikamaru....We're so done for..." Chouji and Ino whimpered then I sighed tiredly

"We're still scroll-less!" They whimpered again and I deadpanned at them

"I know that. Now calm down and help me scout the area for anyone with scrolls"

"Since when were you so serious about getting through this exam???"

"Since now. Hurry up!"

It was nighttime, almost midnight. This was the last day of the exam, so we had to hurry the duck up or else we're actually screwed

I looked around the place a few times and an idea suddenly popped up in my mind.

"SHIKAMARU! INO! CHOUJI! SET UP A TRAP OVER HERE!" I shouted all of a sudden which caught them completely off guard

"Sure, but...."

"why."

"JUST DO IT!"

"Fine fine-"

The three set up a trap while I was working leading people into the trap. I ripped out a few pieces of my shirt and hung them down from tree branches using metal string so the string doesn't burn down. 

I placed a few paper talisman on the cloth so when I activate the jutsu, the cloth burns and looks like will-o'-the-wisp and I needed now to try and lead people into the trap. And most importantly, make sure they had the scroll we need

Luckily, while I was scouting the place, I found a team who have both scrolls, so I activated my sharingan, activated the paper talisman, and watched them be all confused when they're just under my genjutsu.

They went after the 'will-o'-the-wisp' and all they received was just getting stuck in a net.

Oh and they're still under the genjutsu.

I snatched away the scroll and looked around for my team who, of course, were hiding behind some bushes

"Oi, come out. It's just me" I deadpanned then they peaked over the edge and sighed in relief when they saw it was actually me

"So that was your plan?" Shikamaru asked scratching the back of his head

"Yep! Pretty clever, isn't it?" I asked brightly then Shikamaru sighed

"Not really..."

"OH SHUT UP! AT LEAST I GOT US A SCROLL!"

"Okay okay! Sorry..."

Now, all we had to do...

Is get to the tower before sunrise.

Once we were there, we sat down to catch our breath. My team and I were running all night long, trying to get to the tower in time. All the 10 rookies passed which was a surprise, but I'll say I'm a little disappointed. We were ordered to go to the arena in the tower. When we were there, we had to line up.

"First off, Congratulations on passing the second exam" Anko said "We will now have an explanation of the third exam. Everyone listen well" Anko said

"Excuse me. I, Gekkou Hayate, the judge, will explain" Hayate said "Everyone, before the third exam, there's something I want you to do. Please fight in preliminary rounds to see who gets to advance to the third exam's main battle" Hayate said

"Sensei, I don't understand what do you mean by preliminary rounds" Sakura said "Why can't we start the third exam with the remaining examinees?"

"Because the first and second exams were too easy and there are too many examinees left. 21 examinees left in total. According to the chunin regulations, they must decrease the number of participants for the third exam" Hayate explained
