Alica's pov

It has been two hundred and fifty seven days since the beginning of the apocalypse. It has been two hundred and fifty seven days since I have been in a relationship. It has been two hundred and fifty seven days since I have been truly happy.

I could only rely on my brother Nick, my mom Madison, my friend Jake and of course, myself.

Nothing exciting was happening in my life except maybe those lucid dreams I have been having for a while.

I believe in reincarnation and in a past life. I think the girl I keep dreaming about was my lover? I am not quite sure thought. She is very pretty, has long bright blonde hair, piercing baby blue eyes, soft lips, slim figure, is my height and has the most beautiful smile I have ever seen. I really feel drawn to her, I feel like she was the most important person in my past life. She had to be. Why would I be having dreams about her if she wasn't special.

"Hey leeshy." Jake said sitting next to me.

Nick started calling me that when I was young and it kind of just stuck.

"Hi Jakey." I said mockingly.

Jake and I were good friends, although something did happen between us in a non platonic way, we decided to remain friends. I was trying to convince myself that I liked him but I really felt nothing.

It happened almost two months ago so things were back to how they were before but the week after it happened was so awkward. I hurt him and I regret that, I know that he liked me and I felt like I played with him, which I didn't. I just wasn't sure of my feelings and I found out later on why.

It was because of the beautiful blonde who occupied all my dreams. I almost wished I slept all day just to see her. I knew she was only memories but it was like parts of me didn't want to believe that.

"We need to go get some food. Are you coming with?" He asked smiling.

"I have nothing better to do so sure." I said keeping my face emotionless.

I really did feel numb. My face usually was boring, I looked in pain all the times. I will admit that sometimes there were those moments where I smiled, they were rare but great.

"We are leaving now." He said standing up.

I quickly followed him to the car.

My mom and brother were waiting for us there. There was also this army guy, I didn't really know his name.

We lived in a community, we were maybe fifty or seventy in total. It was peaceful but the people were boring. Nick and I really wanted to leave but mom said we wouldn't be able to find better, which was probably true.

"Ready?" My mom asked opening the door.

I nodded before going in. Nick sat next to me while Jake drove.

The way was kind of quick, it was only twenty minutes away from our camp.

We rapidly got out and looked around for any walkers.

Jake and I got in the store while Nick stayed out to watch over us.

We just set a foot in when I heard a walker's voice. It came out of the alley and came toward us. I walked to it and stuck my butterfly knife in his skull, making his body drop lifeless on the ground.

We started walking around and grabbed some things, there wasn't much left but we had to make it enough.

"I found some beans." He said happily.
