Tom's POV
Things have sure been rough lately. Though I have been trying as hard as I possibly can to find a job, it's not working out. The only place I even thought of getting a job at is not accepting any extra workers. As for Tord, I feel like he hasn't even been trying to find a job.
Don't get me wrong, I love him, but— something has got to give. I tried to talk to him about it earlier but he just ignored me. His eyes has been glued to his phone lately. He was definitely hiding something from me. But what could it be?
I expected the worse. Was he.. cheating? No. That's stupid. He wouldn't play that card. I know Tord well enough to know he wouldn't do that.
I could only hope.
I'd figure it out tonight.

——

It was barely 9:30 at night. Tord and me were staying up later to talk and joke around like usual, but there was tension in the air tonight.
Tord noticed this, but decided not to point anything out.

Tord's POV

"Have you found any jobs that interest you?" Tom asked.

"Oh, no. Not really. You?" I asked. Tom nodded in response.

"Yeah. You know that music shop across the street from the arcade?" Tom suggested.

"You have always had a love for music." I smiled, putting an arm around Tom. For some reason he just laughed awkwardly and tried to escape from my arm. My arm quickly retreated when I realized that he was uncomfortable. I was a little hurt, but maybe he had a good reason behind it.

"Tom, are you alright?" I asked, frowning. He never looked uncomfortable when I put my arm around him, so I didn't understand why he was acting uncomfortable now.

"Yes!— I think I just need some space. I've been feeling strange lately." Tom laughed nervously, laying back. "Let's just go to sleep."

I frowned again, laying back with him. "Goodnight, Thomas."
He didn't respond.
He just flipped over in the opposite direction from me. This was not like him.
I frowned more, hoping he would talk to me about it in the morning. I had a bit of trouble falling asleep, but I did soon enough.

Tom's POV
All I could think about was getting my hands on Tord's phone. When I noticed Tord was asleep beside me, I swiftly got up and walked over to his side of the bed. I reached over and grabbed his phone, trying to unlock it. He had a passcode.
"Damn it." I mumbled, thinking of any possible passwords.
I tried '1234', '0000' and a few other common passwords.
He must have had a password that only he could crack. I had almost given up when I finally tried '1223' on accident.
The phone was unlocked.
I blinked, shrugging it off. Of course, I felt dirty looking through his personal information, but I needed to know what was going on. After taking a quick look at each of his apps, I realized that he had gotten a dozen notifications from one app. It was a messenger app.
I took a deep breath and clicked on the app, preparing myself for what I would see. After taking a look at his contacts, two of them stood out to me.
Paul and Patryk.
Who in holy Jehovah were Paul and Patryk?
The names sounded oddly familiar, maybe Tord talked about one of them once. I remember the name Paul, but I've never heard of a Patryk.
I shrugged, looking through messages of a group chat with just the three of them.
I was confused about what they were talking about, especially because they referred to Tord as 'Red leader.'
What is a red leader? After connecting the dots a bit, I noted that I had already heard of a red leader before.
Of course, people on television were talking about a red leader!
I had seen enough. Before I left his phone, I did a quick google search to figure confirm my research.
'Who is the red leader?'
As the tab loaded, dozens of search results came up. After reading about who it was, I had all the information I needed.
Tord was a psychopath.
In this state, I didn't know what to do. I checked over the messages again to see if I could find any further information, and found myself interested at a certain conversation they were having.
It was hard to make out, but from what I could tell, they were talking about Tord meeting up with them. At the red army base. Never to return.
No. Tord wouldn't leave him.
The messages said otherwise. I didn't know what to think or what to believe, I just knew I had to confront Tord about this.
As if on cue, Tord woke up from the light that was given off by the phone. He rubbed his eyes tiredly, looking to see that Tom was going through his phone.

"Tom? Shouldn't you be asleep?—"
"We need to talk."
