Sonnet XXVIII: A Vow I Fend

May 22th 2021

Who comes from my thoughts of prior time?

I ooze like sap from a wounded timber,

And cling to you like an ant in amber.

Now, you will leap from branch-to-branch, and climb

Upward, near the seat of an older crime,

Hoping to find me relaxed and limber.

Who's the best to wound my soul, my old friend?

Who long ago walked along my side, near

You breach my core with dewy words of sleep.

Who finds I do not hide the sorrows' keep!

You've come to loot my guarded secrets penned.

Who comes round the curve discovers not a jeer

Or frown, rather, they find a vow I fend,

To bury your bones underneath this pier.
