Sonnet VIII:
Adonis
2012, Olan L. Smith
Fair maid of old; your kiss remains in thought
Another time enfolds us ― heaven's gloom
Lay bare devotion; Aphrodite brought
Elation to my heart and hence this brume.
Our moment pivotal where time stood still
And lay me under sacred blooms complete;
Its dew drops drenched my appetite ― freewill?
Thus thine appeal; my thirst remains replete.
Am I content? Assuredly my liege,
And soon this time will pass and I will be
Undoubtedly rejoined, alas; besiege
My wontedness of past mistakes my fee―
I hunted Artemis' wild boar against
Desire and this conclusion recompense.
