the monsters in your head

creaking, creeping
you glimpse your back
there is nothing
you sure of that?

is it coming?

a dark corridor
you make your way
your bedroom door
is not far away

can you make it?

it is cold inside
you snuggle in bed
under sheets, you hide
from eyes that are red

does it see you?

no harm shall come
if you pay no heed
it will be gone
just go to sleep

will it, really?

it always happens
every bedtime
imagination
comes to life

out of your head?

some call it a gift
you call it a curse
anything you think
can live, or worse

like this since birth?

a protector
your mind summons
you feel safer
in her presence

are you safe now?

it is gone, it seems
you then exhale
against your dreams
you must prevail

wait, there is more?

deep, slow breathing
skin grows numb
you do not resist
to sleep, you succumb

are you ready?

fall into dreamland
oblivion
sword in hand
face the demons

hear them coming?

monsters, you face
their blood, you shed
they must not escape
from your head

will they get out?

alarm ringing
eyelids open
it is morning
are you done?

have you made it?

the entire house
you search for beasts
there are none
once more, you succeed

from the depths of my mind, they flutter freeWhere stories live. Discover now
