Strange, mysterious Shadow
What a funny fellow
A spitting image of the night
Yet he would rather be with Light.

He followed Light everywhere
By her side, he would be there
For he needed her warm presence
To keep himself in existence.

He could not be too far away
Nor too close to her, to his dismay
For her touch, death it would bring
To his cold, dark, fickle being.

Odd, confounded Shadow
What a peculiar fellow
A supposed mirror of Darkness
Yet they shared nothing but their likeness.

When the sun would fall, so would he
On his knees, to Light he would plead
Spare him from Darkness, he would beg
If only Shadow could cling to her leg.

Then Light would leave to follow the sun
Leaving poor Shadow with no one
When Darkness came, Shadow would fade
Dissolve into Darkness, until the dawn came.

Torn, divided Shadow
What an intriguing fellow
A paradox, his existence was
Lived off light, yet molded from the dark

Of Mother Light, he was born
He had always desired her tender warmth
But to Father Darkness, he bore resemblance
The power of the dark, he inherited.

He could not choose, he was caught in between
Both black and white, he had always been
Shadow was neither day nor night
More like sunset and sunrise.

Poor, unfortunate Shadow
What an interesting fellow
From Light and Darkness, he came to be
Yet if they touched him, he would cease to exist.
